He specifically referenced promises by his GOP colleagues in 2013 that they would be able to get rid of Obamacare through the process of funding the government - a tactic which ultimately led to the 16-day government shutdown that fall.

"This plan never had a chance. But over the course of the August recess in 2013 and the course of September, a lot of my Republican colleagues who knew it was a fool's errand, they were getting a lot of pressure at home to do this. And so we got groups here in town, members, the House and Senate here in town who whipped people into a frenzy believing they could accomplish things that they know, they know are never going to happen," he said.

I am starting to think Boehner is just slow, lazy or a drunkard. In his diatribe he misses the whole point.

In 2013, Boehner was sitting on a public relations gold mine.

Obama had:

During this time Bohener disappeared from view, assuring us that conservatives would have no representation from their elected officals

If we know what you just stated, he knows it, too.

For some reason he and McConnell don’t want to use what’s handed them on a silver platter.

You pass the bills to Obama. You explain what’s happening, what’s at stake. You make him veto the bills. Then you attempt to override and show the Dems in lockstep refusing to override. You keep on explaining.

It’s not that hard to know, certainly not impossible to do.

Perhaps they’ve been compromised through blackmail, or through knowing they are vulnerable to it.

Blackmail is very powerful, yet hard to prove. Maybe that explains his disappearing act. It was incredibly strange.

Sounds reasonable and easy to do, yet they refuse to. They are complicit in the race off a cliff. They are consumed with power and their fear of bad press. To hell with all of them.

He was either paid off, or blackmailed. That goes for many others, including Cheap Justice Roberts. IMHO.

I have thought it was blackmail for a long time. The way he constantly betrayed his constituents was incredible.

In the absence of any other meaningful explanation blackmail is as good an answer as any.

I don’t buy this personally. I believe that they are afraid of the press and what will be written about them and how that will effect the view(s) of history on their tenure. Further they are afraid of civil unrest on their watch as the Obastard Administration has fomented racial strife to levels never seen before in US history.

Why speculate about blackmail when a simpler scenario is also the more likely one?

Most Republicans in Congress are 100% on board with Obama's agenda.

The times they are changing!!!
A little over a year ago John Boehner was speaker and Eric Cantor was second in command.......in a couple of weeks both will be gone.....we are making a difference.....a lot of the credit resides with Ted Cruz...he stood up and took the flak!!!

You a little visit from the FBI men in black..

Saying you got a nice little family there...
Be shame if something happened to them.. i.e. Like that?..

As walked by on their way to “some where”.. or just talking to themselves looking at John..

You got it.

He’s also allowed power to go to his head thereby exacerbating his drunken instability.

Very dangerous man to have in power at this moment in American history.

He has 34 days left and he can still do a lot of damage.

Having a meeting with a like-minded constituent

A Speaker who can’t sell the American people that Obama has declared war on them doesn’t even deserve the description of “empty suit.”

Boner is spewing GOPe talking points.

Your points are excellent.

Without the shutdown and associated images of old vets facing barricades at memorials, and Mt Rushmore closed off, Republicans would not have taken both houses.
