He specifically referenced promises by his GOP colleagues in 2013 that they would be able to get rid of Obamacare through the process of funding the government - a tactic which ultimately led to the 16-day government shutdown that fall.

"This plan never had a chance. But over the course of the August recess in 2013 and the course of September, a lot of my Republican colleagues who knew it was a fool's errand, they were getting a lot of pressure at home to do this. And so we got groups here in town, members, the House and Senate here in town who whipped people into a frenzy believing they could accomplish things that they know, they know are never going to happen," he said.

I am starting to think Boehner is just slow, lazy or a drunkard. In his diatribe he misses the whole point.

In 2013, Boehner was sitting on a public relations gold mine.

Obama had:

During this time Bohener disappeared from view, assuring us that conservatives would have no representation from their elected officals

Where was Speaker Boehner during the shutdown in 2013?

If we know what you just stated, he knows it, too.

For some reason he and McConnell don’t want to use what’s handed them on a silver platter.

You pass the bills to Obama. You explain what’s happening, what’s at stake. You make him veto the bills. Then you attempt to override and show the Dems in lockstep refusing to override. You keep on explaining.

It’s not that hard to know, certainly not impossible to do.

Perhaps they’ve been compromised through blackmail, or through knowing they are vulnerable to it.

The times they are changing!!!
A little over a year ago John Boehner was speaker and Eric Cantor was second in command.......in a couple of weeks both will be gone.....we are making a difference.....a lot of the credit resides with Ted Cruz...he stood up and took the flak!!!

You got it.

He’s also allowed power to go to his head thereby exacerbating his drunken instability.

Very dangerous man to have in power at this moment in American history.

He has 34 days left and he can still do a lot of damage.

A Speaker who can’t sell the American people that Obama has declared war on them doesn’t even deserve the description of “empty suit.”

Boner is spewing GOPe talking points.

Your points are excellent.

Without the shutdown and associated images of old vets facing barricades at memorials, and Mt Rushmore closed off, Republicans would not have taken both houses.

His early life, as described on Wiki, is as interesting as his picture there is bizarre. Something about his eyes...

His Wiki on his early years offers some insights as to how he somehow peter principled his humble self several light years beyond too big for his britches and into a almost unexplainable realm, which begs the eventual questions.

Giving him the benefit of doubt that he's not a fellow progressive traveler in GOP disguise, how does one cope with dangling on the end of the puppetmaster's strings and the compelling reason(s) that keeps one from cutting them?

Apparently a forever tan, a perpetual buzz and lots of golf seems to help, but isn't quite enough, which could explain the "cries like a baby whenever the wind blows" thing he's famous for.

If these last few years are viewed as a military campaign of conquest, but without uniformed armies facing off and lots of killing and breaking things, it all makes more sense.

Proper threats, unlimited bar tabs, greens fees, club memberships and tanning booth time are so much cheaper and far more efficient than the old ways. Sun Tzu would be most pleased!

Not that there’s anything wrong with that...

Give credit to the Democrats.
Even when they were out of power (2001-2006, 2011-2015) they kept pushing for things like gay marriage, free government healthcare, amnesty, huge cuts in the military.

Just because it looked impossible and they lost vote after vote after vote, they persisted. When they lost the vote, they brought it up again. Eventually they won out on every single issue, even though they have not had total control of the government since 2011..

Wouldn’t it be nice if just once we had Republican leadership that would fight and fight like the Democrats.

After the 2014 Democrat election disaster, I had a Democrat legislator come at me and say “you’re losing; we will get everything we want”.

I laughed, but it turns out he was absolutely right. Their gay voters are getting married with taxpayer funded healthcare and illegal alien employees while our military is forced to cut and run from the world stage.

Thanks Boehner and McConnell, and McCarthy and McCain. You can take your party to the Whig Graveyard.

I’m curious who has custody of the Boehner photos...
Obama or Ried?

It’s the Holmes theorem.
When you have eliminated every other possibility, that which remains is that solution.
