State driver’s licenses are among those from four states that will no longer cut it for clearing airport security under tightened measures that will go into effect sometime in 2016.

But travelers may not face any obstacles anytime soon.

The DMV has asked for an extension from Homeland Security for the Real ID Act, which calls for the extra ID measures in the wake of the 9/11 terror attacks.

“We have no reason to believe that any New Yorker will have a problem using their current state-issued ID card to get on a plane come January 2016,” the DMV said in a statement.

And an official with the AAA put the brakes on undue alarm by air travelers, noting the extension and saying fliers can use other forms of ID.

Since some of the leftist states are issuing driver's licenses to illegals, their value in identification and proof of citizenship is greatly diminished. Of course it is only a matter of time before the socialist government starts giving illegals passports as well.

I’m from Tennessee and I’ve been using my passport for domestic flights since 9/11..

and I noticed right off that business travelers did that also..

It’s taken the government 15 years to catch up..

Didn't when I flew back from Alabama a few years ago. A puissant bureaucrat would not except my driver's license on the return flight. He demanded my passport which I didn't think I had to have when traveling to Montgomery. He threatened that if I did fly, I would be pulled off at the connection (in Atlanta but memory fails!)

Tried that once. The geniuses at TSA were so fascinated looking at a passport issued by the U.S. Consulate in Osaka that they had to call some higher up nitwit to approve it.

Finally, got so disgusted waiting that I took the passport back and pulled out my PA driver's license just so I could get through the damn line.
