Stephen Colbert brings out Donald Trump's likeable side on 'The Late Show'

Stephen Colbert interviewed GOP presidential front-running candidate Donald Trump on Tuesday night, according to NBC on Wednesday morning. From the moment Colbert informed the audience that Trump would be appearing through to the post-interview comments Colbert continued to make after Trump left the stage, the atmosphere was comfortably amicable. As one knows, many Trump interviews have not been made comfortable for the billionaire or the audiences subjected to the interviews in the past several months. Colbert was spectacular with his interviewing skills as the newest host of “The Late Show” on NBC as he allowed Trump to be human and – for lack of a better term – quite likable.

“And Fallon’s show is funny. Never have understood why Colbert has a show. Years ago I watched him at a D.C. Press Club Dinner w/George Bush and I don’t think he got even one laugh.”

I’ll have to give Fallon’s show a try. I liked Carson and Leno. Didn’t care for Conan. Colbert did nothing for me.

Thanks for that link. I have sworn off actually watching the whole of a Colbert show, but was glad to see this interview.

Why can’t he sound like this during debates? Does he have Debate Fright?

I suspect that it may be that he views the debates as competitive ventures - which will kick in his type-A, alpha male instincts much like a business negotiation would.

Colbert acted like a buffoon. It was a terrible interview. Not because of Trump

Trump is funny when smart people are funny and bring him into it. Jeb was funny for a second Carson was funny. Fallon was funny

Trump is not a comedian and Colbert was being preschool if not 5th grade level in his humor. Not even sophomoric, which I find funny and which DY can do with Fallon

But 5th grade he’s not going to do.

That could be what they’re grasping at. But it was awful. He did not best DT

How? I missed the show but some friends who watched it didn’t see that. They thought Trump did well and was treated okay.

We never watch Colbert, but did to see Trump. We thought Colbert was on speed, couldn’t or wouldn’t shut up long enough for Trump to speak. But Trump held his own. Not sure he was any different as he is likeable in most interviews.
