If you’re making an appearance on TV or the stage, I’ve always heard that everybody, both men and women get ‘gussied up’ in the Green Room. As far as putting on make up to go to a local Target store, not so much.
Don’t forget this article was written with certain demographics already in mind, such as Metro/Homo/ Bi/ Ambi/Pan/Techphilliac, or Non-sexual men. Today’s young people are expected to be ready (and willing) define who or what they are at any given time.

The cosmetic industry is trying to expand their customer base.
Not for me. One of the pleasures of being a man is taking a shower in the morning, toweling off and getting on with my life. No need to spend more than 10 seconds looking at a mirror.
