Here's an idea

I'm not a big fan of bicycles. This is probably because I had an annual battle with Pan Mass riders that kept me from getting to work. Yet the powers that b seem to want to discourage car travel in favor of bicycle riding So they don't even require them to go through bureaucratic gymnastics to operate them

I am also not a fan of state inspections of my automobile. I agree with the governor of Mississippi in that it is only a huge scheme to collect more taxes from the driving public.

So I say we make things more fair for the motoring public by requiring the same regulations for bicycle riders that exist for motorists. Make them have annual safety inspections and require a tax sticker on the bicycle. Require registration and licensing for all bicycle riders and above all require bicycle emissions to be tested. The state requires my car have a probe stuck in its tailpipe every year so the state can approve the smell of its exhaust -- the same should be required of all bicycles.

I think this would bring more sanity into the process or at least more courtesy for motorists from the cyclists.

In this post don't ask, don't tell world, far too many liberals approve of requiring normal people to participate in their "probe in the tailpipe" hobby. Be careful what you wish for.

But it might make some of these yellow spandex clad bicycle elitists to have some empathy for what normal people go through just to get to work

“empathy for what normal people go through “.......

I like that part. HAHAHAHAHA Yes bike riders, not the motorized variety, are a breed all to themselves.

They go to work too. But what do you “have to go through”?

You are sitting on a very comfortable seat, listening to an expensive sound system, in air conditioned comfort. You have a cup of coffee in a drink holder. You have your cell phone on Bluetooth. You have a roof and a windshield to protect you from rain. And all you need to do to move is twitch your foot a half an inch and a couple hundred horsepower responds to your wishes.

Wow. It’s like you are living in a nazi death camp.

I don’t want anybody probing my tailpipe

I need a state license, Have to pay exorbitant taxes, have to go through an annual approval process, and the state has to approve what my car smells like or I have to pay hefty fines.

I just want bicycles to have to do the same — it is only fair

intention: encourage more courtesy toward automobile operators from bicycle riders
solution: increased governmental regulation
outcome: fail

Nearly all bicycle riders are already subject to those very same regulations. (Hint: they also own and drive cars and trucks).

Actually I favor getting rid of the tax structure that is called automobile inspections. My proposal is to illustrate the absurdity of those regulations by applying the same rationale to another segment of society.

Perhaps my error was in the assumption that others actually had a sense of humor.

“Faaaaaaaair” is the whiny sound that liberals make when someone is enjoying something they don’t like.

BTW, most states don’t do emissions testing. Just the liberal ones.

One of the goofier little posts I've encountered..

The real reason is that you can't or won't ride a bike, is that it?

It's an excellent form of cardiovascular exercise and doesn't wreck ankles and knees and the lower back like running. Could extend your life a bit..

They already ignore simple traffic laws...apparently, the laws are beneath them. If there were a NEW law, they would simply ignore that, as well. I can’t imagine cops would do anything about it, either.

Ha ha!

Been to Europe with the more expensive gas and I think scooters will be the solo rides of the future and bikes if close by.

The government like it all ways in their favor just like smoking. They want increased revenues but to decrease the use of gas engine vehicles. They will eventually will boot people out of some of the cars through taxation and once more are out they will prorate taxes based on the miles on the street. Can see scooters an bikes fitted with tax devices in the future.

At some point the answer is to force them to stop all that and to make government much smaller and in less need of everyone else’s money.

Bicycle tailpipes are incorporated in the drivers of the bikes. They should definitely get probed.

1. Testing to get a bicycle license at 16 YO.
2. Bicycle inspections for safety(fee based).
3. Registration(with a fee structure) for bicycles.
4. A special sales tax when the bicycle is purchased.
5. Mandatory safety classes for all bicycle riders, renew every 5 years.

If it is Ok to do these things for vehicles then it is Ok for bicycles. Added benefit - bike nazi’s heads exploding.

Like the driver in the van the other day who looked at me and then drove right through a stop sign and out in front of me. Me the law was beneath me as I nearly slammed into the side of the van. Yes we bike riders all just ignore all laws. Never in history has a driver of a vehicle ever broken any traffic laws. Ride a bike for a few weeks and see how many people pass within a foot of you or pull out in front of you. Or you sit through light cycles because bikes can’t trigger the light to change green.

If and when they do I expect that they don’t act like they own the entire freaking road and have some special right to run stop signs and stall traffic on a roadway.
