I am honestly getting a little scared of what I see happening in politics at the moment. Trump seems to be creating a personality cult where his supporters dont seem to care what they are supporting provided he attacks the people they dont like. I am starting to feel a little bit like a German citizen in the early 1930s watching normally rational conservatives start to cultishly follow a strong leader who they thought would fight back and stop the communists.
Seriously if I had to pick a political philosophy for the Trump movement I would say that it is fascism for the following reasons.
1. Trump's support of and past involvement in crony capitalism (such as his support for using the condemnation power of the state to take property for private parties with good government connections).
2. Trump's followers extreme desire for a strong leader and almost mystical belief that he can fix things without caring what his beliefs or idealogy is.
3. Trump's support for a type of nationalism that is starting to push into the overtly rascist and nativist realm.
4. The delight that Trump seems to take in personally demeaning and attempting to destroy anyone who opposes him. And the way that his followers cheer him on in so including supporting him using sexist slurs against Megan Kelly for doing her job as a journalist.
5. Finally, the fact that Trump and his supporter seem to have no concern for the constitution or the separation of powers.
Seriously? Number 3. You are playing the race card?
Using your logic, the cult of personality epithet could easily be applied to Cruz. During his TPA flip flop many of his supporters blindly flipped and flopped right along with him regardless of the facts presented to them. It wasn’t pretty to watch here.
“Why does that bother you now?”
Why would you think anyone on this site is only bothered by fascism now?
Rick Wilson, is that you?
Quietly and in the background there have been developing a lot of scores to be settled. You have a right to be worried but I don't think it's Trump you need to be worried about.
I haven’t seen loose usage of the terms “socialist” and/or “communist” here.
I agree but I don’t want to elect another Obama, do you?
LOL....could be.
I don’t see any of that. Many people particularly newscasters tend to overlook Trumps caveats ... the ones that usually come at the end of a definitive statement and a lot softer than the controversial ones.
Such as:
“I going to build the best wall “and it will have a beautiful gate”.
On deportation of families and children “We’ll find ways to work with them”.
Read and listen. It’s fascinating seeing the details emerge but get nary a mention from the talking heads.
Yes, the left will like you to believe that Trump is Fascist. Don’t fall for it. It’s a perfect narrative for them.
Your talking as if Obama, Reid, Pelosi haven’t been running a fascist progressive state.
Everything you wrote there and all the “me too” that follow just ring hollow and like emerging talking points from Trump detractors. So excuse me if I say: You’ve triggered my bullcrap detector.
Trump wants to win to make America Great. The others just want to win because they’re professional political office seekers.
By the same token we should be wary of electing another tyrant, even if we think he is our tyrant. This is the point where we should employ judgment instead of vitriol.
Really?
I'd like to reduce my size to electron microscope size and get into your head to see what is going on there,
And.........No, I am not a Trumpeteer...
It’s a leftist word to derisively describe someone that sees value in his own culture and seeks to preserve it.
You’re a Waffler (Walker) fan??
Say no more. You certainly disqualified (or outed) yourself as GOPe.
Obama is the dictator. that and growing socialism/tyranny in government doesn't bother you though but a businessman that is just running does. ridiculous . you are a liar
You’d prefer one left-wing ideology over another?
I’ve seen nothing out of Trump that remotely resembles fascism. I’m just stating the record.
Actually, the GOP elites are fascists so I guess this post is just a case of projection.
I think it’s Rove : )
it ain’t conservative, but I don’t know if I’d break out the “fascist”... I’m more incline to say pedantic or childish or a lot of other things before the f-word
