Please tell me if you think Netflix's basic service is worthwhile. If you have it, do you regret it or recommend it? I know they have plenty of movies, but do they stream any current TV shows after they air on cable (say next day, or something like that)?

Ever see the Prophecies of Ayn Rand on Netflix?

If not, definitely worth watching.

I have it and it’s great as far as it goes. Some movies never make it to Netflix. However, it does have the complete AMC network “Breaking Bad” series, uncut. That alone makes it worth the $8 per month price of admission. We use it with AppleTV which gets us access to more modern movies by rental or even purchase and it’s much more economical than cable.

Do get a high-speed Internet connection or you’ll spend time buffering the content.

I like it. One advantage over Amazon is that if you like any foreign movies or shows, you can watch it with subtitles or dubbed into English. Amazon is not as good about offering both. Also, with netflix you pay by the month but Amazon charges by the year!

Get Amazon Prime then you get the free shipping and the video service is paid for. Also get Netflix as well. Together with the internet, you will have all you need. Also, put that antenna back on top of your house. That gets you local sports and news for free. In many places there are about 30 over the air channels now.

Don’t buy cable. You don’t need it and much of the money goes to MSNBC.

Totally. Get that and a Roku box to connect to your TV. Alternatively, or in addition, if you are an Amazon Prime user, they offer a streaming service for their members which has similar content to Netflix. You can also pay a small fee to rent movies to stream.

Movie selection seems limited. I have been watching a new episode of The X-Files every night. I haven’t explored their TV selection much beyond that, but it is a shame that, while they have Quantum Leap episodes with all the original music, they don’t have every episode!

For eight dollars a month, how could it be anything but a bargain? Come on, that’s chump change. And yes, it’s worth it.

For kids yes. I haven’t found much I want to watch at least streaming. Magnificent 7, High and the Mighty, The Mountain...all have to be sent on DVD.

Not that that’s bad...works really well, but I want it NOW! LOL!

Longmire will be on with new episodes starting next month. Mrs p6 and I are fans so it’s worth it for us just for that!

We do not have cable and somebody gave us Netflix as a gift. We enjoy watching PSYCHE, the foul-mouthed, but sometimes funny LILYHAMMER, various classic tv shows and some British comedies. Much better than network these days!

Netflix is well worth the $10 a month.
We do not use any of the “real” TV options (uverse, cable, satellite etc).
On Netflix we can have 2 (maybe 3?) people watching at the same time.
No commercials.
Did I mention no commercials?
I pay for Hulu for the period of time that I watch new season Grimm and any other fall show I want to watch as it airs within a day or so. Then I put my account on suspend. Netflix will eventually get the whole season but they are a season behind.
I also have an Amazon Prime account and with that there is quite a lot of TV and movies but mostly older stuff.
Since you can end and restart Netflix at any time there is no reason not to give it a whirl and see if you like it.
Take the time to browse through since there is a lot beneath the surface. The only annoying thing they do is the few things that are only on DVD. To me that’s just stupid.

“I read books. The book is better.”

Oh, I agree! I just placed online orders for 12 new books a few days ago.

I actually like Amazon’s instant video more than Netflix. Altho, I really don’t have anything really against Netflix.

I'm paying 8.65/Mth for streaming service.

A ROKO Wi-Fi streaming stick is about $ 40.00 bucks, on time.

Roko is loaded with Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu and other streaming service.

It’s part of why we have Netflix. I could care less about paying for cable or satellite these days.

I’ll admit to watching Hell on Wheels and I did enjoy it tons. I watched some of Sons of Anarchy before I started to look at it like a soap opera for men, then decided it was.

It’s not too shabby a service and you can find some gems in the rubble of movies and one of movies.

Worth every penny. Great movies and series and they do the streaming thing well. I have had Amazon, mostly films you never heard of for a good reason.

I watched Downton Abbey on Amazon, decide it was better to pay for streaming that show only than pay the hundred plus. I found that Amazon plus didn’t get my stuff their any faster. Wasn’t worth it.

I have Netflix and Amazon Prime. I got Amazon Prime for free shipping, well not exactly free, but I have easily saved money on shipping with Amazon prime. The view the videos and music on Prime to be a bonus. I would say I watch more on Netflix, easily enough each month to justify the cost if compared to renting videos. There are content differences between the two services. They carry different movies. They both have original series. I don’t think either of them have current season episodes of network series. The one thing I have noticed about Amazon is that if they do not have a free movie under Prime, you can rent or buy the movie. There are some movies you cannot get from either service. I run into that occasionally and it really doesn’t bother me.
