Did anybody else spot the HUGE Jeb Bush blooper on Greta Van Sustern a little while ago? Jeb was saying that he supported a path to "citi...uh, I mean legal status." He started to say "citizenship" but caught himself but we know that is what he really meant.
I gotta wonder if that blooper will be shown on campaign videos by his opponents.
His soundbite was much slicker in the original Spanish.
It’s difficult to stay inside the lines of political correctness, and the smarter a person is, the more difficult it is to stay “properly constrained.”
But I guess Jebbies handlers think 'legal status' is more palatable to the unwashed.
yeah, and his kasich buddie said that the illegals contribute! I guess they might as well bring in 50 million more illegals to contribute.
"OK, so we give legalization to the 20 million or so illegals here today. Then they 'come out of the shadows and move more fully into our economy'. What about the next batch? What about the 20 million new illegals who take their place? Do they get legalization also? If not, why not? If the current illegals batch is good for America, good for me and my family, why aren't future batches?
As far as Jeb goes, both terms are one and the same thing.
This is not quite a big a blunder as Obama’s “My Muslim Faith” quote, where Stephanopolous saved him from the truth.
That was always my point: a lot of illegals are good workers. If they are legal they are going to go get better jobs. That leaves who doing the jobs Americans don’t want?
No matter how he phrases, there are Bush-bots everwhere, including under rocks and crevices, who still believe.
If “legal status” meant something a guest worker program where no one under the program could ever become a citizen, and just as importantly, none of their children born in the U.S. would be considered U.S. citizens (which is probably a big constitutional issue), I might support. In other words, anyone seeking a “path to citizenship” would have to leave the country and then get in line just like ever legal immigrant does.
But I am sure that is not what is being talked about, and two, even if that was the understanding, once they got their foot in the door they would eventually get the law changed to allow them citizenship.
Then consider Chain Migration allowed under law ... allows sponsoring of blood relatives to become applicants for a green card then citizenship...
Do the math over 20-30-40 years...
Don’t watch FIX NEWS
So true.
He also got the date wrong for the first amnesty saying 1987 vice 1986.
And why legalize 12 to 20 million guest workers to compete legally against American workers? We have the lowest labor participation rates in 38 years. We bring in 1.1 million legal permanent immigrants annually and 640,000 guest workers a year. We have a surplus of labor. Immigrants, legal and illegal, are taking American jobs and depressing wages.
We've already tried it and it hasn't worked out so well---they just keep coming in ever greater numbers.
The Immigration Reform and Control Act, also known as the Simpson-Mazzoli Act, signed into law by Ronald Reagan on November 6, 1986, is an Act of Congress which reformed United States immigration law.
...legalized illegal immigrants who entered the United States before January 1, 1982 and had resided there continuously with the penalty of a fine, back taxes due, and admission of guilt; candidates were required to prove that they were not guilty of crimes, that they were in the country before January 1, 1982, and that they possessed minimal knowledge about U.S. history, government, and the English language.

They have to be under rocks and crevices because I’ve never met one. Supposedly, there’s a unicorn farm in Utah that grows them.
English is a second language at Jeb’s house.
