Any sort of legal status equals citizenship, eventually.

But I guess Jebbies handlers think 'legal status' is more palatable to the unwashed.

If “legal status” meant something a guest worker program where no one under the program could ever become a citizen, and just as importantly, none of their children born in the U.S. would be considered U.S. citizens (which is probably a big constitutional issue), I might support. In other words, anyone seeking a “path to citizenship” would have to leave the country and then get in line just like ever legal immigrant does.

But I am sure that is not what is being talked about, and two, even if that was the understanding, once they got their foot in the door they would eventually get the law changed to allow them citizenship.
