Where did this idea come from?,,women’s bodies are different than men’s. Women need to sit down to do all the functions. This seems to me like a “solution” in search of a “problem” which didn’t exist. Were any women complaining that they had to go in a regular toilet to urinate???

Urinals for women: My dormitory during my freshman year in college was Smith Hall, a multi-story slab of concrete and steel on W. 11th in Columbus, OH. It was one of several such characterless residence halls along the same street. They are all still there, and coed, but in my time most of them were all male. The all women's dorm I remember was the decrepit gothic style (rooftop gargoyles included) Mack Hall at the end of the street.

I and my several hundred companions in Smith behaved like we were the cast of Animal House (which hadn't been put on film yet) and caused so much damage and university dismay that after repairs Smith was converted for the following year to an all female residence. But they hadn't had the time or maybe the funds to convert the bathrooms and all of them included a wall of urinals. We were later told that the young ladies living there found them to be very handy for washing their hair without having to take a full shower. I don't think they ever tried the "ski position" referred to in this article.

they are more sanitary than ‘sit down toilets’ as the user doesn’t have to come into contact with the seat.

However, there's always that inevitable issue with standing in someone else's urine since, as we all know, a stream of fluid tends to splatter. Then we take that into our homes when we walk through the door .........
