Builders digging at a Chinese secondary school had the rare fortune to stumble upon an ancient tomb.

Archaeologists have since excavated the tomb in Jiangjin, a district in Chongqing, south west China, to reveal an enormous, double-chambered burial site.

The large scale tomb, believed to be built during the Song Dynasty (960 - 1279AD), is extreme intricate in design and layout, reported People's Daily Online.

While reading this it occurred to me that, given our government's proclivities, perhaps today we are living in the Songandance Dynasty.

P.S. I was once lucky enough to snag a low-class rice bowl from the Southern Song, the design of which was, I think, the basis for omojawan, the wide-and-flat tea bowls used in summer Japanese tea ceremony.

Absolutely! And after I posted about the carvings, I realized that I had never used the term ‘breathtaking’ before.

Very beautiful styling and execution.

Ancient people have a lot to teach us, through what they left behind.
