While reading this it occurred to me that, given our government's proclivities, perhaps today we are living in the Songandance Dynasty.
P.S. I was once lucky enough to snag a low-class rice bowl from the Southern Song, the design of which was, I think, the basis for omojawan, the wide-and-flat tea bowls used in summer Japanese tea ceremony.
