Could cyberwar knock us back to the Stone Age?

Consider this article a thought experiment. Rather than exploring individual vulnerabilities or examining named exploits, let's explore what aspects of modern technology define our Information Age, and what might happen if some of those relied-upon technologies were no longer available to us.

For the purpose of our exploration, we will assume that cyberwar doesn't lead to a nuclear or biological war, that the effects resulting from the conflict remain within the bounds of digital means of destruction rather than traditional NBC (nuclear, biological, and chemical) warfare.

Hope you have an oil well and know how to refine your own diesel or gasoline.

Geez! Having a tractor with an old style ignition is like having locks on your doors. It doesn’t insure a good outcome, but mitigates the risk.

And with hundreds of gas stations around here and 99.999% of the vehicles on the road unable to use it, I think VERY cheap gas will be in good supply.

Also, watch and learn:

I have 32 acres, over half wooded.

You are welcome to have that tag line, {I prep because DHS and FEMA told me it was a good idea...)”. That tag line will screw up the government trying to jail you for prepping or their trying to take your preps.

You can download and print their very own list of items to store for an emergency. Just hand them their own printed directions, say you are trying to be a good citizen following their directions, and offer them a cup of coffee while they read them. Instead of taking your stuff, they will give you a medal for following their directions.

I have often read that only 3% of the population has enough food for three days in their house. The remaining 97% will start dying soon after no water for three days and 3 weeks without food.

When one thinks about it, we depend on others to keep us alive. I don't know anyone at the water department who would care if I died. I don't know anyone at a grocery store who would care if I died. I don't know anyone at an emergency room who would care if I died.

I CARE IF I DIE, so it is up to me to provide what I need to live. It is that simple.

“Instead of taking your stuff, they will give you a medal for following their directions.” Yeah, riiiiight. When the government comes to gather up supplies to feed the welfare dependents they will not be reasoning with anyone. They will be seizing ‘assets’, and if you have followed government directions to stock in recommended supplies those are what the storm troopers will be seizing.

That post was tongue in cheek - there is no way Old Sarge is going to let anyone know where he is or what he has or where it is. :o)

Mmmm, probably not. Could make things really annoying for a while. But it really wasn’t that long ago that we ran this country without computers talking to each other all the time. And thanks to invasions and disaster relief efforts we actually have lots of people that can get an infrastructure up and rolling mid-20th century style fairly quickly. Within a couple of months we’d be back to 1950. Which might feel like the stone age for some, but it’s not too bad.

Expect the “Gubbermint’ to reply that it depends of what prepping is.

I said: "You can download and print their very own list of items to "store for an emergency." You said: "Do you possibly have a link? THANKS!"

Here is the post I made on July 31 about their list and link:

"It seems to me that one of the government agencies was urging the public to be prepared for emergencies like tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. That we should have several days food and water stored."

Yes, Homeland Security wants us to be prepared for emergencies. FEMA is part of Homeland Security, and if you go to the link below, you will find lists of items you should have for an emergency. They say you may not have time to buy things after the emergency happens, so buy things now so you will have them.

Of course if you buy items for an emergency and someone in the store sees you buying several of something, be prepared to be arrested as a suspected terrorist.
