In the small rural city that I live in the UP of Michigan the City Manager walked into his office on July 13, submitted his letter of resignation effective immediately, turned his keys in and walked out the door. Now the proverbial piece of excrement wants to have the acceptance of his resignation rescinded. The city council has already appointed a interim city manager and the person is doing the job, suddenly the excrement wants his job back. the city manager's history throughout all of Michigan uper and lower peninsula is that he has been terminated from eight other positions
The most interesting part of your post, which becomes thereby the only interesting part, is your obvious refusal to name the city.
Details man, DETAILS!
Who
What
Where
Why
Beeber me, I am taking a shower.
You have a waterproof ‘puter?
Amish, or just white trash?
Sounds like George Costanza.
I thought everybody did...
(hat tip: Weird Al Yankovic)
Thanks for the tip. I’m on my way to try it out.
Perry Franzoi City Manager, City of Iron River, MI, former city manager in Breitung Township (Dickinson County), Iron Mountain (Dickinson County), Munising (Alger County) Saugatauck (Allegan County) and four other cities or townships
On July 13 Perry Franzoi entered his office typed his resignation submitted the resignation and turned in his keys to the City Clerk. On July 15, city appointed interim city manager in the City Council meeting under new business. Th City now has requested a Special Meeting at 9:00AM to Rescind the Acceptance of the Resignation of Perry Franzoi City Manager. Suddenly the taxpayers who were relieved that this poor excuse of a City manager was gone, now the collective groan of the city can be heard. This idiot aided the City in getting a bond issue to demolish a building whereby the adjoining building owner is suing the City. The Miner’s sTate bank is suing the City of Iron River for its failure to deal with a main water break that happened on the weekend and when dealing with it on Monday, the water had entered into the banks basement damaging the computer system, basement and other bank property. The main water break has not been repaired adequately yet and the sidewalk and the alleyway has to be replaced yet once again.
No one knows why he resigned, but he resigned the resignation went into effect an interim City manager has been appointed, now the guy changes his mind. Do the taxpayer have to accept that the he now wants his job back!
not Amish - everyone thinks he is gay. The thought is that some think he was to get married to his partner, but the partner decided no and he nowhere to go. The last position he had prior to Iron River, breitung Township paid him $37, 146.45 to the end of his contract. Some others think that the city will be stuck with the guy whom does nothing but collect a paycheck and the city may have to fulfill his contract. Trying to find out more details as I was absent from the city meeting on July 15, but have been advised by many others as I am a candidate for Mayor for November 3 election
My question is why does a city of 3,000 people even have a city manager let alone a city council.
Via Wiki: On July 1, 2000, the city of Stambaugh and the village of Mineral Hills were consolidated with the City of Iron River.
Gadzeeks, you are only 3,000 due to merger with two of muncipalities. Sounds like there needs to be some more consolidation up there in the Upper Pennisula.
If you are running for mayor, get off Free Republic and go knock on doors. But you platform better be reducing the tax burden.
I have been knocking on doors. I need 50 signatures to run, I have approximately 48 achieved and seeking an additional 14 more as a buffer in case something happens with a signature being thrown out
I moved here to Iron River in 2006, the City is a mess. The city’s population is down to 2,820 people. The city council is filled with imbeciles. the council members receive $150.00 for each meeting. The council members want i-pads instead of all the paper copies. There is no need for i-pads
I have sat at the City Council meetings for 4 years, in the entire time $275,000 has been spent on 2 new water department trucks with plows at $65,000, 1 police cruiser at $27,000 (including the new light package of $5700), now a 2015 Dodge Charger at $33,000 - because it is AWD), 2 new Husqvarna Zero turn Mowers at #9700.00 each (there not even commercial grade just heavy duty home owners grade), leasing a 4WD Sterling Snow plow at $55,000 a year, and $60,000 for a used street sweeper. I stated at the meetings no for many of the items, instead fix the roads.
The city submited $10,000.00 for a federal road grant of 2 million dollars for the replacement of one road, the engineering consulting firm charged $5000.00 to aid in filling and filing form. Grant request was not even considered by the Feds.
The consolidation of the Village of Minerals (population 228) and the City of Stambaugh (population 1278) was done based on a study done in the 70s for all the small municiplaities of Caspain, Gaastra, Mineral Hills, Stambaugh to merge together as the consolidated City of Iron River. This has been a mess because the retirement funds were inadequate to cover the retirement of all the individuals from Stambaugh and Mineral Hills too.
There are 118 abandoned and vacant properties some over 50 years old being abandoned and vacant, the property values are dropping because of the look of the city as like detroit. At one time there were 86 active Iron Ore Mines in the County now there are 0. There is only 1 Iron Ore Mine that could be reopened the Sherwood, the Feds have been here to look at it for its uranium content.
City Manager is not necessary - but there would have to be a vote to change the charter to eliminate the City Manager.
