For many, the media obsession with a Donald Trump presidential run seems like something that came out of his prominence as an Obama critic, circa 2011. But NBC News footage from 1988 demonstrates that even back in the coked-out 80s, everyone was still obsessed with the possibility of a President The Donald. ADVERTISEMENT
The conservative Media Research Center unearthed a clip from August 17, 1988, in which then-NBC reporter Chris Wallace (now host of Fox News Sunday) pressed Trump about his political ambitions during an interview at that years Republican National Convention.
Surprise! When asked about whether hed ever consider a presidential run, Trump boasted that he would have a very good chance at winning because When I do something, I like to win. Actually, we take back the sarcastic surprise this is slightly different from todays Trump, who would never have made half-assed assertions like very good chance.

A minor point from the article:
“The conservative Media Research Center unearthed a clip from August 17, 1988, in which then-NBC reporter Chris Wallace (now host of Fox News Sunday) pressed Trump about his political ambitions during an interview at that years Republican National Convention. “
Just for emphasis: “Republican National Convention”.

He was friend of George h Bush. Still?
Thanks for the article. The fact that he’s thought of running for so long explains why he seems to understand every issue facing the country so well, and is ready to get to work to FIX THINGS.
He’s a friend of anyone that serves his immediate purpose - in other words, he’s a pragmatist - he’ll do what it takes to get the job done including making deals with the devil if necessary.
Any ideologue of whatever stripe will be deeply disappointed by him sooner or later. Discerning what his interests are and assessing how they mesh with yours is the only way to decide whether you should vote for him.
...or, like me, he just reads the NY Post everyday.
It is obvious; he has been secretly conspiring against the Republicans, carefully laying the groundwork to strike, for 27 years.
