Coyote sightings in North Texas are not all that unusual, but attacks are rare.
Zane Weddell, 15, said he was walking out of a move at the Cinemark Tinsletown Sunday night in Grapevine when he was bitten by a coyote.
"I was like shocked there was a coyote," he said.
Zane said he and his girlfriend walked around the back of the theater, and the coyote came around the bushes.
It came at me, came at us, so I grabbed my shoe and I threw it at it, hit it, and it came back, came at me, so I like kicked it with my foot. And it got hold of my foot and shook me around a little bit, and it like let go and took off, he explained.
His mother was waiting for him at the front of the theater, so he ran to her car, where she saw blood on his foot. They then went to the emergency room, where Zane had five shots.
He is now being treated with multiple rounds of antibiotics.
It was really scary. He was OK physically. I was really more afraid of infection or if the coyote was rabid, because of the way he was acting. Im still kind of scared because he still has three more rounds of shots to go, said mother Kendra Weddell.
Grapevine police confirm that animal control was notified. Their crews have been looking, but so far, have not seen the coyote. Police also say have only had one call about a coyote.
We have called a representative from Cinemark, and they have returned our calls, but we have not connected.
And when they 'connect' what possible contribution might Cinemark make to this story? Is there some suspicion the coyotes work for Cinemark? Perhaps the coyotes were attracted to the location because they have an interest in film?
There's a yoga studio across the parking lot from Cinemark. Maybe the coyote was leaving from a yoga session. Has anybody bothered contacting the yoga studio?
[Insert downward-facing dog joke here.]

Shouldn’t this story start with “once upon a time”?
A. I hope he gets tested for rabies. B. I hope they and the coyote were not watching Zoo.
Naw, this kind of story starts with “There we wuz...”.
Naw, it starts with “LIKE there we wuz..”
Story said he is receiving rabies shots.
Just friend furry forest critters doing what friendly furry forest critters do.
It’s better to be bitten by a coyote than a moose.
Old FR timers know what I mean.
Bit in the grapevine?
Man, that’s gotta hurt!
>>> Has anybody bothered contacting the yoga studio? <<<
Was the coyote wearing yoga pants?
Can you get tested for rabies? I was under the assumption that if the animal’s brain cannot be examined then rabies shot are due course for the human.
Paging Rick Perry, we know your busy but we have a job for you.
Tequila for everyone!
Sounds like a rabid coyote. They are a pain on their best days but they usually avoid humans in my experience. OTOH my encounters have few few and far between. More rural Freepers could probably share some not so fun stories.
There are dozens of coyotes around my property. I hear them howl every night. Yet, in 15 years I have never seen one, I just hear them howling deep in the woods. They are extremely wary of humans, so it is odd to imagine seeing one in the city unless it is rabid.
There's the problem. If only he had hate kicked it instead, it wouldn't have bitten him.
No. He had on a hoodie
The test for rabies is whether you die or not.
That’s why they start rabies shots immediately.
Thank you, JJ.. that’s what I thought. They have to start the shots immediately and not wait because once you have it.. you die. Plus, I thought the animal has to be put down and the brain examined for it to show rabies or not. From my understanding, it is a horrible, horrible way to die (not that there are great ways.. but you get my point). :)
