In the wake of the shootings in Charleston, an amazing national groundswell of support has built for removing the Confederate flags that have flown from state capitals throughout the South. Businesses like Amazon, eBay, and Walmart have banned the selling of flags and flag-related material. The country's largest flag maker has said it will stop making the flag entirely. And guerrilla protestors around the country are starting to deface the statues honoring Confederate generals and politicians.
But the reach of the Confederacyand the almost-insane tone-deafness of organizations and politicians who celebrate its historygoes well beyond the flag and hides in other insidious ways throughout the region. Here are just a few examples:
Kappa Sigma is a fraternity founded at the University of Virginia in 1869 (note, after the South had lost the Civil War). Today, it boasts more than 18,000 collegiate members and many more alumni, including North Carolina Senator Richard Burr. It also boasts oneand only onehonorary member: Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederacy, racist, and traitor to America

Really? You were there? The winners write the history books.
Why would you consider Pennsylvania (Buchanan) a southern President?
The "good guys" who the liberals presumably side with believed women should not vote, homosexuality was a serious crime, and Native Americans could be shot on sight. And until the war started they had no problem buying cotton harvested by slaves, or even rounding them up and returning them to their owners.
I wonder how he thinks the survivors of the slaughter led by Che and his communist brethren feel when they see his picture being worn.
Because he was a democrat southernophile who was favorable to the southern cause of slavery. Buchanan won the presidency in no small part due to the strong support of wouthern states. He used his position as president to induce one of the members of SCOTUS to change his vote allowing the horrendous Dred Scot to pass.
He intruded into the state business of Nebraska in a brazen attempt to tilt the balance of power in favor of the pro-slavers that wanted Nebraska to be a slave state.
He stood idly by and allowed the first four southern states to rebel stating that he “lacked authority”.
There is no doubt that buchanan assiduously saw to the desires of the south.
When will they tear down the Richard C. Byrd
U.S. courthouse in West Virginia?
I could easily see them dynamiting Mount Rushmore.
And I am not kidding. I don’t see any difference between the people pushing this, and the Taliban in their physical destruction of things they disagree with, or the Soviets in their purges where they made people “nonpersons”.
I thought the same thing.
Very good way to point out the stupidity of the people against the Confederate flag.
On a side note, I always found it odd that pirates seem to have this fun-loving, cuddly, debonair image to many modern people.
Back in the day, there was a reason they covered the bodies of pirates with tar and hung them in cages at the entrances to harbors.
If we treated modern day terrorists the same way, with the same dispatch, there might be fewer terrorists.
"Heres what former Senator Tom Daschle said in his book, Critical, . . . The elderly have a responsibility to die, knowing that they are not going to survive their chronic illnesses, so that society can save money and pump funds into care for the younger, more worthy recipients.
The source is a site I've been trying to remember for sometime I heard about it but could not remember it. here
Dashole was simply repeating what other Democrats have said like former Colorado governor Richard Lamm that seniors have a duty to die "and get out of the way" if they are very ill (that was 25 years ago.. he's pretty elderly now I suspect.)
Damn, how long before the carpetbaggers get here?
More anti-Confederate masturbation.
Lets do away with the DemocRat party since they were the founders of the Ku Klux Klan.
You`re a pretty good vexillographer there cc.
Yeah? Well same to ya buddy. LOL
That’s my Michigan version. I used to have a simple dark blue flag with the word “Tuebor” (I Will Defend) in white.
By what right does anyone re-write the terms of surrender in a war they never fought in?
There was no Constitutional prohibition regarding Secession.
The Tenth Amendment is very clear on this, or it was before the SCOTUS up ended it a few weeks ago.
Heard they want to rename Washington, DC as Barryville in honor of Marion Barry and his supporters.
Arrrrr.
