Ozone also has no residual effect and this is why chlorine is used more routinely.
Some of it likely pissed out by dinosaurs.
There are many many ways to desalinate water. If these scientists had developed a way that beat the others byo cost —then the cost savings would be their headline.
The biggest 20th century revolution will be when energy and desalination costs fall sufficiently to make it economical to desalinate seawater and pipe it 1000 miles inland to any desert in the world for desert farming.
That will effectively result in turning the deserts green and doubling the size of the habitable earth.
The elements for that are already in place.
Thanks for the Ping. I have to color myself skeptical. I have often run into “miracle” cures for water treatment (ask me about the infamous “water pearl”) I need to see the chemistry specifics before I would credit a word of it. I also know how to precipitate huge amounts of junk from water, but by in large they are far from cost effective.
Definitely need to perform a 5 year real time test at the EPA and the White House ....
Time-honored wisdom.

You will find it very pretty,
Just two things that you must beware ....
Don't drink the water and don't breathe the air
RE: Don’t drink the water and don’t breathe the air
Well, necessity is the mother of invention.
The only questions I have about this report is:
1) How much water did they purify?
2) How much energy did they expend to purify this volume of water?
3) How much was the COST to accomplish this?
If all three questions converge into something worth commercializing, it will be impressive BUT NOT UNTIL.
