Nine-year-old Shreya Patel of Schaumburg will be among the young winners of Michelle Obama’s “healthy lunchtime challenge” who’ll get to dine with the first lady at the White House later this week.

Her garam masala quinoa burger with raita was chosen as the winning recipe entered from Illinois, winning her a spot at the awards luncheon Friday.

Entries had to be healthy, affordable and tasty.

Shreya wrote in an essay accompanying her entry that she’s been cooking since she was 3 and said she loves to “mix, measure, chop and even clean up afterwards.”

Here’s her recipe:

"And how are schools supposed to serve it on the buck-ten a day or whatever their budget is for the lunch?"

They'll make it out of 10 year old expired food products.

It's gained favor as a hipster food a few years ago. Likewise, the term "Garam Masala" is a fabricated hipster set of words for "unknown exotic spices that you eat because you take selfies of yourself doing yoga".

I like quinoa... (pronounced KEEN-wah)... If I have some, I'll add it to broth with sausage and greens instead of something like diatilini or orzo. But still, I feel like I need to put on Clark Kent glasses, yoga pants and a Vinyasa scarf when I eat it in my kale soup.

Patel.

Vegetarian Indian lass.

Makes a nice paperweight for Moochie’s worthless desk.

The winning prize is eating with Moochie at the White House? Sounds more like she got the booby prize.

Boob belt prize.

I like quinoa and have it from time to time. It does need something to flavor it, as it can’t stand on its own as a star item in any meal. But it is not the sort of food people line up for.

I’d like to know who the judges were. Any kids? And what was it judged against?

If this burger is served in schools, methinks it might end up In the trash can.

Rice cakes are vehicles for putting peanut butter in your mouth without using a spoon or licking the knife like a man would as he eats over the kitchen sink.

Interestingly, many liberal sites have posted similar articles...

I guess being hip, organic, etc. is more important than the negative consequences on 3rd world countries...

I’m sure that quinoa makes a great hamburger.

First you have to feed it to some prime Angus cattle.

I've heard it opined here once that:

All of society's ills can be directly or indirectly attributed to Liberalism.

I’ve never understood the Veggie Burger thing. Vegans don’t want to eat meat - yet they insist on having something that TASTES like meat? Huh?

Wife asked me to get her some quinoa next time I went shopping so she could try it.

I asked, "What in the world is 'keen-wa'? Which is how it is pronounced.

She explained it to me and then stated it was a staple in the diet of ancient Incas.

My statement of quinoa maybe being why there are no more Incas was answered with the all too familiar tongue click. Brought some home. She tried it. Agreed with me about disappearance of Incas.

Into the garbage.

Yeah.

Moochie will be eating these once a week from now on.

Not.

“”GARAM MASALA QUINOA BURGER WITH RAITA””

The only words familiar to me are “burger” and “with”.....
Don’t think I’d be interested in having lunch with the current occupant(s) of the White House.

Well, she looks Indian so I assume she doesn’t eat red meat (cow). I disagree that the recipe is low cost. I have tried several brands of veggie burgers and TBH... I haven’t found one yet that was good.

Name me one, just one quick service chain (fast food) that sells a popular/profitable healthy sandwich. It doesn't exist, because this pap tastes like cow flop and people want flavor. I went through many years of McD's trying to placate the demands of the food nazis and not once did anyone want to buy the tasteless crud.

I tried them when I was dieting. A few of my gal pals said if I piled on lettuce, tomato and onion.. I couldn’t tell. Liar, liar, pants on fire! I’d rather suffer through a green salad for dinner than have my palette be insulted over something that tastes sort of like/not really/if you pretend... a hamburger. I threw the box away (because the dogs wouldn’t eat them).

Take it from me, quinoa sux.

Inedible, no matter what you do to it...
