A road trip down old Route 66 led to a Wild West-style motel shootout for a pioneering CNN anchor and her former-soldier hubby.
Lynne Russell the first woman to ever solo-anchor a primetime network news show and Chuck de Caro, 65, had stopped at a Motel 6 for the night in Albuquerque when an intruder slipped into their room as Russell went to grab something from the car around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.
I opened the door and he materialized out of nowhere; he was inside, she told The Post. And he pushed me into the room and onto the bed and closed the door.

Sounds like good news. Hate he was injured. Loved her comment at the end.

There’s a nice picture of Lynne with the article, if someone wants to post it (not very good at that stuff).
Still a very pretty lady.

Must have been a Glock .35. Never heard of it until now.

Lynne Russell had a concealed carry permit when she lived in Atlanta and spoke openly about the fact that she carried a handgun. If I’m not mistaken, she was also a volunteer deputy with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department.

I caught that also. Couldn’t figure what a .35 caliber was.
Maybe .45 caliber with shoddy reporting.

Doesn’t hurt when hubby’s ex-special forces!
Dude picked the wrong hotel room.

.35 caliber could be anything from a .380 to a 9mm to a .357.
Where is that public relations woman that Bloomberg is paying to say that “This never happens.”
To: marktwain
I am guessing it was a Glock 35, which is .40 S&W caliber.

So you walk out of your motel 6 room with your husband in the shower and guns on the table?
Were you driving a fancy car parked right in front of your room too?
This reads like what you should not do if you are ex CNN and ex special forces or whatever.

Staying at a motel with a lobby rather than rooms that open to the outside might be safer. There are no guarantees. Ever.

Driving through at 11:30 might be tough to find. My advice would have been stop in Moriarty, or drive on to the big casino/hotel 30 min west.
Much safer than Albuquerque.

“Ira actually a .40 caliber.”
The media will report it as a “semi-automatic assault pistol” with an 80-round banana “clip”.
