She said she wanted to draw attention to feral cat problem
A New Castle woman is tired of the feral cats on Cedar Street. Rochelle Smolnik said they threaten her children and are dangerous.
“He had a broken tail and his leg was all scratched up,” her 8-year-old daughter, Lily Smolnik, said, “And he hissed at me and he started to growl at me too and he had white stuff all coming out of his mouth.”

The mother was so frustrated, that she sounded off on Facebook.
One post read: “F.Y.I. to all neighbors on Cedar, if your animal dog/cat is running lose (sic), using my yard as a litter box and eating my garbage, they will soon disappear!!! I cannot help it if they eat yummy sleeping pills dipped in tuna or peanut butter out of my garbage on MY porch (where they should not be in the first place) I hope you understand.”
That post launched a flurry of replies and shares. Many outraged that Smolnik would threaten to poison animals.
“Oh, yes, we were definitely trying to create drama,” Smolnik said. “Drama was a wildfire on Facebook.”
Smolnik said she was trying to draw attention to the problem. She does agree with feral cat programs that catch, neuter, and release cats back into the world. She also has had conflict with other programs that euthanize animals that are sick or dangerous.
So, the cat problem continues on her street.
That sure is a weird lookin’ pancake.
How is she going to manage to poison them on Facebook? You cannot exactly physically get onto Facebook.
Someone, somewhere is going to take that title literally;
“Woman Threatens to Poison Cats on Facebook”.
That person’s response; ‘Well, my cats are safe, because I have removed all their pictures from Facebook, although their comments remain posted.
We had a feral cat problem until I got a couple live traps. I baited them and dropped them off at animal control. Those that could be adopted were, those that couldn’t were humanely euthanized.
Now that the coyote population has increase the cats have vanished.

Kind of dumb to announce it.
Florida laws allow shooting of Feral Cats. Two questions come to mind:
1. May one shoot the cat while it is on Facebook?
2. If one shoots the cat while it is on Facebook, has one violated the First Amendment rights of said cat?

Just go get the darn air rifle at wal-mart, and take care of the problem, but noooooooooo, being a woman, she had to rant and tell everyone about her problem, where she lived, including 8 1/2 by 11 inch glossies, with the writing on the back!

Sounds like the cat might have rabies. She should have called animal control instead of resorting to the internet.
I need some of them coyotes around here for the racoons.
She doesn’t know much about cats if she thinks she can put a bit of tuna on a pill & have them eat it.
