Flaming Hawk With Snake in Its Talons Sparks Fire Near La Jolla
NBC Bay Area ^ | Tuesday, Jun 9, 2015 | R. Stickney

Posted on 06/09/2015 5:58:35 PM PDT by nickcarraway

The cause of an early morning fire north of San Diego was an electrocuted bird falling from an active power line

A bird carrying a snake in its talons struck power lines north of San Diego, sparking a hillside fire just west of The Merge.

San Diego Police arrived to the location on Dunhill Street near the intersection of Interstates 5 and 805 just before 6 a.m.

Flames were burning very close to businesses including the General Atomics building, officials said.

Officers called in San Diego Fire-Rescue crews who contained the fire within an hour.

Fire officials initially told NBC 7 a bird with a snake in its mouth was electrocuted on a power line and fell to the ground, sparking the fire. A photo released by officials later shows the snake in the hawk's grasp.

"A hawk that hit the high voltage power line, caught fire, and fell to the ground," SD Fire-Rescue spokesperson Lee Swanson said in a written release.

There were no structures damaged and no evacuations ordered.

This area of San Diego is home to many companies in the region's biochemical industry.

I’m glad you’re feeling better. I went to a meeting at church. Then I cut up the fruit I bought on the way home. Next I’ll have to make the Offspring something for supper, I suppose ...

I could go to sleep, if that was an option.

Everything didn’t come to a complete stop. The IRS is still at work collecting taxes.

If you can make THAT come to a stop you may have had your ship come in.

Goodness, look at the time. It’s about time to begin the afternoon commute.

Where did the day go?

Can you still say day go? Is it a racist thought crime or something?

You just have to be careful where you say it.

Had my pills and some tapioca, and will be heading back to the bedroom soon. I want to check out some of the books my younger bro left on the Nook for me. He’s pretty cool. He’s given me a scanner, a printer, a palm pilot, (stolen during the break-in at Busdaddys) a digital camera and now the Nook. My big sis has given me a Kindle and some computer games, back when computers were fun.

I got pretty good at Myst. :o]

Now that I’m feeling better, I’m going to be stressing over those two bills and the TP I didn’t get until probably midnight. *sheesh*

105, 10% and W @ 15, with overcast skies.

It would be nice to have a cantaloupe...Walmart had a lot of them this weekend. And maybe even an ear of corn...

I haven't had one for a while, so I figured it was my turn. Hahaha. Ohyah...I need Febreeze air freshener again. I loathe smokers. They are all inconsiderate.

That doctor’s appointment in the morning is clear over on Las Vegas Blvd, which means I will be dealing with LOTS of traffic.

Ungh.

And I will have to go a second time on that side of town this week to the pain management clinic to get a new prescription for morphine.

One must master the art of making the sound of the inner can opener.

One of my friends keeps asking me about my bucket list now that I’m nearly 55.

It’s been 2 legs, 2 thighs, and a half a breast for over 30 years. Why is this such a big deal?

"One of my friends keeps asking me about my bucket list now that I’m nearly 55."

"It’s been 2 legs, 2 thighs, and a half a breast for over 30 years. Why is this such a big deal?"

The secret of a long and happy life is to learn to enjoy simple pleasures. To take joy in small things.

If the only thing that will make you happy is to win the lottery, then you will never be happy, even if you win the lottery.

Is that a difficult concept? By the time you find your life-long dream, you will have suffered so many disappointments that the reward is completely dwarfed by the cost of payment.

Instead, gather joy in tiny blessings, which are easy to find if you look for them. If you can find joy this way, you can find joy every day. By the time you decide to look around to assess your life, you will realize that by having been blessed every day with tiny joys and delights, your bucket may be empty but your cup runneth over!

Take joy in tiny blessings. My needs are simple and my wants are few:

I Only Want …

I only want a million days,
To loll around and squander,
And idly, in a drunkard’s path,
About the hills to wander.

A million days of sunrise,
Begetting jeweled morn,
And sultry softened afternoons,
With rain no hint to warn.

The rain may fall in eventide,
To lull a resting soul,
As smiling for the joy of life,
Relinquishes control.

Such perfect days are metered,
We get so very few,
A million such seem adequate,
If one has aught to do.

I’d intersperse them with a touch,
Of raw days and of storm,
Which wouldn’t count among the list,
Just give excuse to warm,

While waiting out the frozen count,
Of days on which I feed,
Before the fire of stored delight,
Preserved for such a need.

In the spirit of the summer's hit movies, today's Kitteh includes a subtle product placement.

“Not as exotic as all that,” Chief Gramm said with a sly grin, “Meed Boda.”

Is that a typso, or is the character's name "Meed Boda"?

Really cute story, moves right along. I like the subtle way you put in the currency and what you did with the bartender character.

(Comma splices, a bit of confusion with tenses.)
