There has been a complete dismissal by some that the dubious management of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp, created by Gov. Scott Walker has led to a new investigation. Characterized a " partisan witch hunt" by his defenders, the reality is that GOP legislators have serious concerns about how unsecured loans were made and never repaid. In addition, GOP prosecutors, as well as the bypartisan audit team, soundly refute that dismissal. GOP legislators removed Walker as Chairman of the WEDC earlier this week.
Here is a link to an article outlining GOP concerns on one of those loans, which is the current focus of the investigation.
LOL. Okay.
The RNC has given every so called R. except Walker my email to ask for funds. Yes, Walker is the only one who has not asked me for money.
I think the poster of this thread makes the same claim.
Two were written off. See pages 26 and 27: http://legis.wisconsin.gov/lab/reports/13-7full.pdf Two others are being reviewed, 5 were forgiven (unknown terms of forgiveness, usually the company has to give something in return for forgiveness), etc.
It is worth posting and linking to facts rather than just claiming "Many" were written off and implying all of them were not paid back.
You have subscribed to a mostly liberal newspaper. You also read and have linked to political enemies of Walker here, for example prwatch.org which is run by the Center for Media and Democracy founded by John Stauber, basically an enemy of capitalism and American exceptionalism.
At least in this thread, so far, you have refrained from repeating the talking points from those other sources.
You’ll notice that this article as well as others I have linked have been full of quotes from GOP sources, i.e. auditors, prosecutors and legislators. Are they Walker’s enemies as well?
You keep making excuses for the inexcusable reality of this situation. Maybe others are capable of being more objective when provided with substantive facts.
You do understand the difference between an editorial and a news article? This is not an opinion piece beyond the GOP legislators it quotes.
Not true. There have been no quotes from GOP auditors. There are no quotes from GOP prosecutors. The article you just linked has these quotes from a GOP legislators:
We know that its time to reform this, said Rep. Dean Knudson, R-Hudson. We cant do it in the middle of the budget. Knudson even made the sobering admission that he didnt believe in the mission of the agency to leverage state tax dollars to help create jobs.
Earlier Thursday, Rep. John Nygren, R-Marinette, budget committee co-chairman, said the audit and the newspapers investigation into a questionable 2011 loan to a struggling Milwaukee construction company have prompted concerns among GOP legislators. .... "The WEDC model can be effective, but obviously we've got some work to do to make improvements," Nygren said.
There are indeed some quotes from GOP legislators (two) in this article. That is better than nothing.
You keep making excuses for the inexcusable reality of this situation. Maybe others are capable of being more objective when provided with substantive facts.
I'm not the one attacking a good Republican candidate, you are. There are some partisan allegations made against him which we can ignore since he has been attacked for five years for busting the public unions. There are now some GOP concerns. It is good that you post those and I recommend you continue to do so. In fact, if it possible, please paste the exact quotes from the articles at Madison.com into the thread. The reason is that we do not want to all subscribe to that rag just so we can see those quotes. Don't paste the whole article since that would probably violate the terms of your subscription. But small snippets should be ok.
That's not the question at all. The question is whether the unending political war against Walker in Wisconsin by his political enemies there will succeed. Some here want it to succeed. My take is that if a reasonably unbiased investigation shows corruption, then Walker should be held responsible. So far there has been an audit with some findings that warrant further review, but no evidence of any laws broken.
The literal reading of his comments is that government jobs creation, touted by Walker, does not work. That is a strike against Walker. I would not suggest that this makes him a weak candidate because of a potential federal investigation. That is, frankly, leftist talking point nonsense created by Walker's many political enemies.
What it does say is that Walker has shown nonconservative qualities, namely state intrusion into private business. No candidate is perfect however. But it is worth your while keeping track of the situation in case there are substantive allegations of improper dealings.
"The scope of the criminal scheme under investigation is expansive," lead prosecutor Francis Schmitz wrote in a Dec. 9 court filing objecting to an attempt by Walker's campaign and other conservative groups to quash subpoenas. "It includes criminal violations of multiple elections laws" including filing false campaign-finance reports, Schmitz wrote.
That is old news, referring to the Dec 9, 2013 quote. It is a reference to the John Doe investigation. It does not refer to WEDC. It has nothing to do with WEDC, the topic of this thread. Do not try to confuse readers by conflating those two issues.
I was addressing your false assertion that the articles I posted previously had no GOP quotes.
There is no mystery to your not getting solicitations from the GOP for Walker. He hasn’t declared yet has he?
Funny how that works.
How did you get by the moderators?
Ok, next time I will be more specific. Articles that you posted previously about WEDC contained no GOP quotes. This one is the first. As I said above, please post more of these quotes about WEDC. WEDC, not John Doe.
cj noted in another thread she has received freepmails of support.
The illegal campaign coordination charges are very much alive and well. Those are a part of John Doe.
