Googles self-driving cars will hit the roads by summer 2015 On May 21, 2015, Nvidia (NVDA) started shipping Drive PX, its hardware and software development kit, to leading luxury car manufacturers including Bentley, Aston Martin, Tesla (TSLA), and Rolls-Royce.
Google (GOOG), which has been in this space for the last six years, will be putting its self-driving cars on public roads by as early as summer 2015. Tech giants report that Google, with a fleet of almost 20 self-driving cars, now averages ~10,000 self-driving miles per week. Google claims that its cars have 75 years of US adult driving experience if its test-run miles are taken into account.
North America is expected to lead self-driving cars sales According to the IHS study, North America will account for 29% of global sales of SDCs (self-driving cars) in 2035. This would include level-4 SDCs, which also permit human control, and level-5 SDCs, self-driving-only cars. North America is supposed to be followed by China (FXI) with 24% share of sales, or over 2.8 million units. Western Europe is projected to account for 20% of sales, or 2.4 million vehicles.
Google reveals its accident statistics
Sometime ago, Google revealed its accident data to prove that its self-driving cars are safe on the road. The company stated that its cars had been involved in 11 minor accidents, with no injuries, during its six years in the space. Naturally, the company stated that the accidents werent the fault of its cars.

This all hits a speed bump the first time a kid gets hit in a school crossing or gets knocked off his bike. Lawsuit city.
Just a thought - but these are going to quickly become targets for vandals and thieves. Probably something Google isn’t thinking about.
Unmanned, wealthy corporate vehicle coming through the hood after dark? Get the rocks ready!
I really want to see one of those cars drive up here with all the deer and elk running around. We have rock slides and fallen trees as well. All that happens in less than a second.
Yeah I think this thing is being exaggerated. I mean how does it know the difference between a rock in the road and a paper bag or the difference between leaves in the road and broken glass? Or how about when a cop want you to pull over, does it recognize lights in the rear view mirror? This thing cannot be driving at any reasonable speed.
“I have always wondered how the Google Car handles situations like this”
With a lot of sensors-

I will never have an only self-driving car. Forget that crap. I will turn off as much of the computer as I can.
But General Electric and Westinghouse were not ordinary companies back then, and Google is not an ordinary company today.
Can anyone identify what made GE and Westinghouse so special back then, and what makes Google so special today?
DOA. Every time I read about self-driving cars I am left wondering about terrorists loading one up with explosives and sending it on its merry way. And, yes, maybe it requires a warm body to initiate. Okay, so they tie up some poor soul and dump them in the car. The result is a Google-delivered bomb.
Stupid stupid stupid. A really dumb idea.
Good car for the frail elderly.

What’s to stop them now from parking a truck and walking away?
