Woman Says Her Wi-Fi Connection Is Making Her Sick

From using cell phones and computers to watching movies online, wireless technology has made life easier. But now, some say there is a serious downside.

As CBS2’s Maurice Dubois explained, there are those who claim that exposure to wi-fi is making people sick, and some people don’t even know it.

“Brain fog. That’s my worst problem. A brain fog,” Suzanne Hoyt said.

Hoyt said that nothing prepared her for the rush of symptoms that she suddenly developed.

“Headaches, perspiration, pain in my jaws and my heart. It’s like physical expansion of the heart,” she said.

Hoyt said it all started when she installed wi-fi throughout her apartment.

“I started to be very uncomfortable, and I didn’t know what it was,” she said.

With wi-fi everywhere, from parks to restaurants and taxis it turns out Hoyt is not alone.

“It was like a deep burning sensation in my face, in my nose, my jaw, it was like a deep burning sensation,” she said.

It’s called wi-fi sensitivity, and doctors say it’s a very real condition with serious consequences.

Dr. David Carpenter, an Environmental Scientist and expert on wi-fi’s effects said the scientific link between wi-fi and health is clearly emerging.

“There is a body of evidence that is strong. it’s not 100 percent understood, but it’s strong evidence that this is a real syndrome that causes real harm to real people,” he said.

Dr. Carpenter said it’s a significant problem for about 5 percent of the population, many of them have no idea that wi-fi is to blame.

“They walk around feeling ill and they don’t know what to do about it,” he said.

Other doctors counter that the evidence connecting wi-fi to illness just isn’t there.

“It’s a psychological phenomenon,” neuropsychologist Dr. William Barr said.

Woman Says Her Wi-Fi Connection Is Making Her Sick

And, lemme guess.....only a lawsuit will make her feel better, right?

We are essentially electronically-controlled machines with a network of conductors running through every inch of our bodies.

I can see how EMF waves at some frequencies/amplitudes can affect some people.

Yeah, sure, that is theoretically possible, however I believe in most of the studies of people reporting these kinds of symptoms, they have found that the people report the symptoms whenever they think they are exposed to whatever EMF they are afraid of, even if they are not actually being exposed to it. So, it seems to be something like a placebo effect.

Plenty of stories where cell phones have been snuck near the fruitcakes and they’re perfectly fine.

Hmmm. I think I see a solution here.

I am sure this woman spends a couple of hours a day with a cell phone pressed against her head but Wi-Fi makes her sick.

A 1 watt transmitter a room away is going to have much less effect on her noggin than that ¼ watt transmitter pressed against her skull.

Scoff if you will. But try standing or working within 800 feet of a cell tower. The brain has a frequency that modulates function. The strong electromagnetic signals spewing from cell towers have cumulative effect on the smooth functioning of the brain waves of mammals, and I suspect any living thing with a brain.

“some say...”..... “immediately, I began to feel.....” and a plethora of other plaints. Some of the ‘examples’ chosen for this slow-news piece have one or two things in common. They are either straight out hysteric nut ball looking/acting, or they act like hypochondriacs would.

Still, some others look like they’re just going through the motions that will support a disability claim of some sort.

I’d hazard a guess that after whomever willing ‘expert’ they could contact and get on their side, the next call was to a lawyer to help them either to sue somebody or help push the disability claim through.

The lady in the apartment who “installed WIFI throughout her apartment” has a simple solution - turn the damned thing off if you think it bothers you.

I’ve been in the RF business for decades and I’ve occasionally gotten calls routed to me for stuff like this. Nearly always it was someone looking for a commitment to support their claim as they proceeded forth.

Here’s a simple fact. Radio frequency energy spherically diverges as it moves away from the emitter. The amount of energy received per steradian unit area decreases by 1/R squared. When you bring in the concept of a receiving antenna or physically-sized target, then frequency and wavelength play a part. RF energy and the affects it causes in humans is generally measured by specific absorption ratio (SAR) in blocks of energy over time over a specific exposed sample size. Studies have been done about exposure of mobile phones held up to he head, because that R distance is small.

With wifi, my opinion is that you’d have to sleep with your head on the antenna for quite a while to notice any effects, if any. Frankly, in my view there are worse hazards, one being living under high voltage power lines but that’s another area for another day.

Her RF sensitivity could easily be tested — Put her in a large Faraday cage with an antenna. Have a computer randomly turn RF on and off and have her press a button to indicate when it’s on. If the RF being on and her sensing of it show that she’s able to detect the signal, her claimed sensitivity to it can be confirmed.

Hah, I’ll bet you are one of those kooks who thinks we need double blind studies and reproducible results. What’s next? Verifiable data?

You probably are a climate change denier, too. Get with the program.
