Pressure is growing for a boycott of Game of Thrones after a popular character, Sansa Stark, was raped in the latest episode. However, the actress who plays the role, Sophie Turner, has defended the scene which does not appear in the books saying she kinda loved filming it. The demand for a boycott has been led by US Senator Claire McCaskill, who tweeted her distaste with the show.

I have not watched one minute of this series but from what I read there are tons of sex and nudity, incest, castration, patricide, stabbing a pregnant women in the womb, people dying in various gruesome ways, and whatever gruesome things Mr. Martin has thought up but for some reason people who have watched this stuff for years are all in horror because one can add rape. Give me a break.

Furthermore, it’s nothing more than McCaskill in her typical PC pandering political ploy

Is she gonna boycott Jodie Foster, because her move “The Accused” was basically one big rape scene? Or is that different somehow?

I’m waiting for the scenes in which (graphic) pederasty is shown. Will that bring outrage?

A US Senator would have time for this kind of nonsense? All I’ve seen are commercials for the show and it made such an impression on me I don’t have an idea of when it’s even on or where and don’t care! How come I have more important things going on in my life than a US Senator does?

If the honorable Senator is so worried about rape, maybe she should focus her attention on what ISIS is up to.

The Daily Mail headline and lede are purely manufactured. Neither McCaskill nor anyone else is leading a boycott and there is no such growing pressure for one. McCaskill and a few others have said they will quit watching the show, but no one—at least that I have seen—is telling other people they shouldn’t watch the show. I happen to believe that their criticism of the scene in question is off the mark, but they have every right to express their displeasure. They would also have every right to say the show should be boycotted, but they haven’t done that.

Should the scene be Sansaed?
Bit of a stretch, I know. :)

A US Senator would have time for this kind of nonsense? Maybe that's why they never have the time to read the bills. They're watching too much television.

The TV show is combining characters and plots, like combining Gendry with Edric Storm. In this case, Sansa has been combined with the Arya Stark substitute Jeyne Pool, who WAS raped repeatedly by Ramsey in the books
Spoiler alert
before her rescue by Theon and being taken to the wall. I think they have Theon take Sansa and rescue her and take her to Stannis’ troops, as happened to Jeyne in the books.
The rape scene is hardly graphic by TV sex scenes, though having a man spurned to redemption by the horror of a cared about woman’s rape is a trope.

"I happen to believe that their criticism of the scene in question is off the mark, but they have every right to express their displeasure."
I agree. Sansa is playing the Game of Thrones. Ramsey controls Winterfell and will be named warden of the North after his father, Roose Bolten, if Sansa doesn't intervene.
Ramsey likes to victimize people under his control. Sansa is playing the victim to appease him. Ultimately, I think Sansa will take control of Winterfell with the help of Theon.
Cersei Lannister: "When you play the game of thrones you win or you die. There is no middle ground."
Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish: "You know what I learnt losing that duel? I learnt that I'll never win. Not that way. That's their game, their rules. I'm not going to fight them: I'm going to [redacted] them. That's what I know, that's what I am, and only by admitting what we are can we get what we want."
