Furthermore, it’s nothing more than McCaskill in her typical PC pandering political ploy
Is she gonna boycott Jodie Foster, because her move “The Accused” was basically one big rape scene? Or is that different somehow?
Not a fan, never will be.
Someone else used the very apt name, “Atrocity Porn”.
I’m waiting for the scenes in which (graphic) pederasty is shown. Will that bring outrage?
Another Democrat boycotting Democrats, and not seeing the irony.
I did not Sansa that coming ;)
If the honorable Senator is so worried about rape, maybe she should focus her attention on what ISIS is up to.
Real life >>> television
The witch mccaskill is nothing but a pandering pos.
The Daily Mail headline and lede are purely manufactured. Neither McCaskill nor anyone else is leading a boycott and there is no such growing pressure for one. McCaskill and a few others have said they will quit watching the show, but no one—at least that I have seen—is telling other people they shouldn’t watch the show. I happen to believe that their criticism of the scene in question is off the mark, but they have every right to express their displeasure. They would also have every right to say the show should be boycotted, but they haven’t done that.
How are the women of Ramadi doing this morning, Senator? The ones who trusted you and your President to do your jobs?
Wow. The 50 Shades of Grey fad has passed already?
The TV show is combining characters and plots, like combining Gendry with Edric Storm. In this case, Sansa has been combined with the Arya Stark substitute Jeyne Pool, who WAS raped repeatedly by Ramsey in the books
Spoiler alert
before her rescue by Theon and being taken to the wall. I think they have Theon take Sansa and rescue her and take her to Stannis’ troops, as happened to Jeyne in the books.
The rape scene is hardly graphic by TV sex scenes, though having a man spurned to redemption by the horror of a cared about woman’s rape is a trope.
Somebody needs something real and important to do.
Freedom of speech, remember that? Do what I do when confronted with subject matter I find offensive to me, change the channel, turn it off, read a book, clean your house, walk away, do something else. The Senator has no more right to dictate what anyone watches than Mrs. Obama has telling us what our children can eat. I do find it amusing she was ok with the series until now (crucifying, beheading, burning people alive, raping, torturing, etc.)! When there is no audience or customer base for something, it goes away. Game of Thrones mirrors, in a grand scale, good vs. evil, very much like what we live with today.
This will go nowhere. Millions and millions enjoy and watch GOT and relatively few have heard of McCaskill. This is just Claire playing to the “war on women” in order to gin up campaign contributions. Few if any regular viewers will pay her any heed and viewership will probably be increased from this publicity. She is best ignored.

This thread involves discussion of Game of Thrones S05E06. If you haven't seen this episode yet there may be spoilers here.
I generally don’t like the Wizards and dragons type of fantasy movies/shows. I was bored silly by Lord of the Rings. But I love GOT mostly because of the complex plots and characters and all the palace intrigue. The plots and plans within plots and plans I find fascinating. This is the same thing I enjoyed so much in the Dune series by Frank Herbert. GOT has also chosen excellent actors and given them awesome dialogue, who have been able to flesh out the character and make them very memorable, even the minor characters. It is infinitely better than anything coming out of Hollywood these days. Certainly better than yet another boring CGI laden superhero movie which has essentially the same plot as every other superhero movie but different costumes.
I never watch Games of Boring ,yawn
apparently the Senator had no problem with that!
(And just in the interest in further gas bag deflating, throughout history there have been arranged marriages. On the wedding night the wife would ALWAYS have sex - like it or not. To make matters even worse, typically members of both the bride and the groom's family would be present to make sure the deal was actually consummated. In the case of the nobility, there frequently had to be witnessed bleeding or the deal was off. Sorry, but history is history - whether it fits with popular current ideas or not!)
So skinning people alive or forcing rats to dig into their abdomens is ok, but a “rape” scene involving two newlyweds is not ok?
