`California is still the place to go to strike gold. The state spawned 23 new billionaires over the past year, bringing its total count to 131 or nearly a quarter of Americas 10-digit club.
It not only has more billionaires than any other U.S. state, but also tops Germany, India, Russia and the UK. In fact, if California were a country, it would be home to the third-highest number of billionaires in the world, surpassed only by the United States (which has 541) and China (which has 223). Californias billionaires own a combined $560.1 billion in wealth, which is more than the GDP of 49 countries, including Argentina, Poland and Taiwan.
Not surprisingly, more than a third of the Golden States wealthiest entrepreneurs made their money in the tech industry. Others got rich in sectors such as investments, real estate and media.
Half of Californias billionaires live in the Bay Area and Silicon Valley. San Francisco itself is home to 26 of them, and Los Angeles to 22. Among U.S. cities, only New York boasts more billionaires.
The richest Californian is Oracle ORCL +1.72% founder Larry Ellison, who has a fortune worth $54.3 billion. Next up are Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg ($33.4 billion) and Google GOOGL +0.33% cofounders Larry Page ($29.7 billion) and Sergey Brin ($29.2 billion).
Of the 23 California residents who joined the FORBES Billionaires List this year, nine are younger than 40. These include Uber cofounders Garrett Camp and Travis Kalanick, Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes and Airbnb cofounders Nathan Blecharczyk, Brian Chesky and Joe Gebbia.
, most recently computer networking firm Arista Networks. Hilton Schlosberg, the Irvine-based president of Monster Beverage, is British. Bassam Alghanim, a KuwLike Camp, who is Canadian, five other entrepreneurs who struck gold in California arent U.S. citizens.

I still left the state.
I still love being a native Californian. There’ nowhere to go better.
Still working on my first billion.
Yes, but socialism and Jerry Brown still both suck.
Speaking of billionaires, why is no one capitalizing on the fact that it took a GOP congress to force George Soros to pay his taxes?
It is great to be from California, far from!
California Has More Billionaires Than Every Country Except The U.S. And China
And yet they still have to ration water.
They just want to live in a pleasant environment and will pay whatever 'cause they can afford it
How did they get so rich in the first place ?
That influence is often the source of problems that the billionaires can afford to overcome. Not so much for the little guy.
For instance, the smoking ban in Michigan bars was heavily supported by Michigan casinos who had a loophole by virtue of having the required 10,000 square feet of space to allow separate smoking areas. Few bars are over 1500 or 2000 sq feet.
I have no idea how Facebook makes money, but I don’t use it like the kids.
Running out of water is a good reason to leave the state.
so I did a search, 85% from ads. I have never clicked on an ad on FB and only in extremely rare cases at any other time, not including mistakes. Most were mistakes. But I hate to shop anyway.
Yet the state has a terrible unemployment rate, and is rapidly sinking in all areas regarding jobs.
America needs to pay attention.
We need to bring back jobs to America. Not create more ultra-millionaires, we need to support our economic development.
America badly needs to return the focus, back to the development of American jobs.
What? Dang it. Where’s ma cash! This California Conservative seems to have missed that boat! hehe
If I was a billionaire California would be the last I would live nothing there of worth taxes and illegals.
If you were a billionaire, the illegals and taxes would be a feature, not a bug.
Plenty of illegals keeps the wages of the worker bees low, so your companies and factories can make you more money.
The taxes keep the serfs from rising too close to your lofty position.
Kids aren't using Facebook anymore cuz their parents are using it. So they use instagram, snapchat, whatsapp, etc instead.
It’s all a matter of what one is worth in skills that creates higher pay and taxes the more you make the more they take growth for a business is hard to do and then toss in a heap of regulations so in the end you get fined for growing.
