Orioles VP Angelos Makes Profound Statement Following Baltimore Protests
.cbslocal.com/ ^ | April 27, 2015 3:14 PM | John Angelos

“Brett, speaking only for myself, I agree with your point that the principle of peaceful, non-violent protest and the observance of the rule of law is of utmost importance in any society. MLK, Gandhi, Mandela, and all great opposition leaders throughout history have always preached this precept. Further, it is critical that in any democracy investigation must be completed and due process must be honored before any government or police members are judged responsible.

That said, my greater source of personal concern, outrage and sympathy beyond this particular case is focused neither upon one night’s property damage nor upon the acts, but is focused rather upon the past four-decade period during which an American political elite have shipped middle class and working class jobs away from Baltimore and cities and towns around the U.S. to third-world dictatorships like China and others, plunged tens of millions of good hard-working Americans into economic devastation, and then followed that action around the nation by diminishing every American’s civil rights protections in order to control an unfairly impoverished population living under an ever-declining standard of living and suffering at the butt end of an ever-more militarized and aggressive surveillance state.

The innocent working families of all backgrounds whose lives and dreams have been cut short by excessive violence, surveillance, and other abuses of the Bill of Rights by government pay the true price, an ultimate price, and one that far exceeds the importance of any kids’ game played tonight, or ever, at Camden Yards. We need to keep in mind people are suffering and dying around the U.S., and while we are thankful no one was injured at Camden Yards, there is a far bigger picture for poor Americans in Baltimore and everywhere who don’t have jobs and are losing economic civil and legal rights, and this makes inconvenience at a ball game irrelevant in light of the needless suffering government is inflicting upon ordinary Americans.”

You mean like us divorcing from the rest of the nation? Yea, I’m with that.

Sounds like more scapegoating to me — blames NAFTA and “surveillance”. Can’t directly blame Republican mayors — none since ‘67 in Baltimore.

Any bets that he’ll be writing a check to the “Cruz for President” campaign?

1964... was that Watts, Philly or Detroit?

“And I’d take the 1964 Orioles over the 2015 Orioles. Brooks .317 with 28 homers, Boog with 39 homers.”

And THOSE numbers were achieved WITHOUT steroids!

Achieved, ‘Old School’ via booze and plenty of Hookers; the way professional sports were MEANT to be played, IMHO! :)

Speaking of taxed away ...

What was the justification for having the taxpayers of Maryland pay $200M for Oriole Park at Camden Yards, the home ballpark for a team owned by a billionaire?

I think this guy is full of sh!t.

1964 saw Republicans push through the Civil Rights Act over the objections of the Democrats.

1965 saw the Great Society.

1968 saw black riots in many cities.

All downhill since 1964

I’ll take
1954
1964
1974
1964
1994 over what we have now. Easily!

After the fall of Communism is when the free trade (free traitor) deals kicked into high gear with NAFTA and the WTO and buying everything from China

While I would agree, as a rhetorical point, if you say nice things about the 1950s, some people will jump up and down and shout "Jim Crow! Jim Crow! You want to bring back segregation -- don't you?!" It's ridiculous.

But I usually set my time machine back to the year of the Civil Rights Act (1964) so that no one can paint me as an apologist for blatant social prejudice.

at least partially......China is not the problem with Baltimore...or any other city in trouble. It’s their own American liberal leadership.

You are correct. But I doubt the liberal Angelos would agree. Nonetheless, he is also correct in his conclusion.

... in light of the needless suffering government is inflicting upon ordinary Americans.”

You both are saying the same thing. But I would wager you're not assigning the blame to the same parties. Therein lies the Great Paradox of the current American condition.

We all agree that something has gone wrong -- deeply wrong. But we're blaming each other for the affliction.

Like Rodney King/ L.A. in 1992, the riots of the mid-60’s were always sparked by “Police brutality. “ For that matter, the Boston Massacre was the same, in 1770. 1968 was different, those were sparked by MLK assassination. We’ve had the democrat/ civil rights “brain trust” in charge of all these areas for decades and they haven’t been able to solve the problem. It’s obvious that it is the ugly underside of their playing ethnic politics and ethnic grievances. One of the biggest players of all time sits in the Oval office tonight.. . or he could be if he weren’t out playing around somewhere.

I agree. And that innocent enough 1964 Civil Right Act was only for blacks and Indians and was pledged to not involve quotas. All that has evolved into quotas/affirmative action and everyone including gays and trannys getting civil rights protections. That they then use to bash others over the head with

Liberals want it both ways when THEY talk about the halcyon '50s, when every "workin' man" was in a union.

And fat cats paid 80-90% marginal tax rates.

Course they never mention all of the tax loopholes the "rich" used to get, so they'd sometimes pay little or no taxes.
