The Apple Watch Launch is a Brand-damaging Botch Job

It really is amateur hour at Apple. The tech giant’s first major product line launch in years has gone badly wrong, with the original in-store sales date scrapped, and no word of when the Apple Watch will actually go on sale for people to, you know, buy.

Sales predictions, and online pre-order numbers look great, but that’s about the only thing that’s good about the launch of the first new product line to come from Apple under Tim Cook’s stewardship. Frankly, everything else associated with the launch has been a balls up from start to finish.

Here’s a product that the Cupertino-based company has described as its most personal yet. It’s so personal, that the only way you can buy it is online. The least personal shopping experience there is.

The more I think about it, the Apple watch is like Obamacare for your wrist.

From everything I’ve read the watch wasn’t Tim’s idea. Much like the unAffordable Care Act.

The term “watch” itself is kind of antiquated. The “Apple Band” might have been better.

The term watch is far from old school. Billions of people still wear them. It serves a specific purpose: tell time at a glance in bright, maintenance-free fashion. They’re often waterproof, self-charging, and simple.

People who wear watches still want all these features. Apple fails to deliver. Watch wearers will ditch their impulsive buy assuming they get one, or avoid the product altogether. Non watch wearers got rid of watches because they don’t like them on their wrist. They’ll wear a trinket for about a month, then toss it in a drawer.

Top it off with an Obamacare spiel like Apple is now, and failure is immanent. Shareholders beware.

Beta News is as usual Spot on.

Apple has only sold 2.3 million Apple Watches at $500 a unit.

Poor Apple is down to their last $178 billion in cash and has a market cap of $740 billion.

Beta News must be worth a least a trillion dollars.

Net worth doesn’t mean companies don’t produce failed products. You must get your news from an Apple store.

That’s what I mean. Don’t go with a term — “watch” — which everyone knows. This is a new thing. Call it a “band” ... Then you can fold in rock ‘n’ roll, too ...

Who cares. It’s a niche market of Sharper Image gadgets.

You’re absolutely right. It’s not even a band. It’s Obamacare for the wrist.

“Net worth doesn’t mean companies don’t produce failed products. You must get your news from an Apple store.”

The 2.3 million units sold is from several sources.

But, you could be right, Apple Watch sales are very much like the iPod, iPhone and iPad.

Stupid premise.

Jobs sold more computers than they could make the first year.

Wrong. Other Apple products filled a global need when the globe needed it.

Name three life-changing, hell I’ll accept three time saving, features this stupid “watch” provides to the world, a world willing to accept.

You can’t because not even Apple is hitching their wagon to this star. Sorry. Apple is now a one trick pony... phones. Their portfolio has fallen flat. All other products they have are flat or in decline. Investors beware.

"Balls up" and Tim Cook in the same paragraph?

The article must have been composed by the [recently revised] Russian version of Siri.
