Apple Watch reviews were published yesterday. The majority of reviewers thought the Apple Watch was a great device and has potential to be a game changer in how they use technology. The problem is that unless you read every review, you wouldn't have known that. Instead, the collective conclusion from the web yesterday was that the Apple Watch flopped with early reviews. There were 21 Apple Watch reviews published, but the 4 reviews that were more critical of the device got the most attention, leaving the 14 glowing reviews behind. Meanwhile, most of the important features of the Watch such as watch bands and durability were either not included or buried within lots of other text. Simply put: product reviews are broken. There needs to be a better way to review products.

Apple will fail in their watch. History is not on their side. Casio failed. Citizen failed. Microsoft failed. All wearable computers failed.
Accept and move on. Deny the evil gay leader in his quest. He will fail.
If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me.
That was my thought as well. I’ve seen some details on these smart watches and cannot for the life of me see how they would be any more useful than a smartphone or tablet.
I think the watch only works if you have an iPhone on you, which makes it redundant and pointless
You've not been paying attention. The Apple Watch on-line pre-sales SOLD OUT in under ten minutes in every country in the world where they went on sale for delivery on April 24th. They are on back-order for AUGUST already. That is later than any iPhone has ever been put on back-order. Sorry, you are wrong. Hours long lines at Apple store formed just to LOOK at the Apple Watch which was not even being pre-sold for later delivery in stores, except by appointment.
Consider a watch much like a leash. One that tracks your every vital. It senses when you awake. Where you go. What you like. What location you visit. What blood pressure you have. Your pulse. Your demeanor.
Is this any different than a cell phone? Or perhaps is this a new kind of leash that tracks you as a human.
Casio, Citizen, and even Microsoft made WATCHES. . . Apple Watch is not a watch. Just as an iPhone is not a phone. There is where you are making your primary mistake.
Go back and review your history. Pre sales does not equal total sales. The hype will end fast, and the party will be over.
Lots of absurd straw men in your list. . . and assumptions that are not true. Are you planning on shooting them down, or are they just rhetorical?
No, it is an accessory. No different than a pair of headphones. Or perhaps a body tracking device.
Rhetorical? You obviously don’t know your tech history. Put your money where your words are and ride Apple down the hole they dug themselves.
No one said it does or will . . . but it represents millions of Apple Watches. It is not hype if Apple is selling millions of Apple Watches. Apple has NEVER sold out a product in 10 minutes before. Nor has it offered the same product on the same day in as many countries.
You really don't know what you are talking about. There are ~400,000,000 iOS devices already in consumers' hands that will work with an Apple Watch. If only 10% the owners of those devices buy an Apple Watch that's 40 million, ten times the number of smart watches sold by other makers to date. Knowing Apple, the likelyhood is that Apple's pre-sales have already SOLD 20% of that number. . . before they even get to the release weekend.
I am not an Apple fanboy, but I do believe this “watch” will be a huge success. What you need to understand is that this is not a watch. It is a peripheral device that both expands the utility of the iPhone and decouples some features from the phone itself.
While the technology is still in its infancy, all it will take is a couple of good apps and it will be hugely successful. And since the best way to make a great app is to steal it, I would suggest that you sell your FitBit stock while you still can.
I’d get one if they were waterproof.
I swim a lot and an Apple watch that was waterproof would be perfect to keep track of laps, show me emails, etc.
I like the idea of just looking at my watch to see texts, emails, etc. and to have short conversations over it, rather than trying to dig into my pocket to get it...and to hold it near an Apple pay sensor to pay for things.
I’d buy it now, but it’s not waterproof, so no go for the nonce.
See ya’, Sword! Thanks for all the Apple pings, we sure appreciate ‘em!
Ed
What I really want to know is if AAPL is a buy now.
I’m not so interested in buying their watch as buying their stock if it’s going to make me some money.
What do you think? Do you have a link that says how many watches have already been ordered?
I’m not anti-Apple, but I don’t see the need for a smart watch. They are simply nice to have’s.
I know my tech history better than do you. If you believe what you say, I suggest you buy Apple Shorts.
By-the-way, Apple iPhone 6 and 6plus just hit 27.6% market share of all phones sold in CHINA and lines are still three to four hours long to buy them.
"Apples iOS has grabbed an all-time high market share in urban China, according to recent data. The hot demand for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus drove Apples climbing market share and gave it the push it needed to usurp Beijing-based Xiaomi to be the top smartphone maker in the country. For the three months ending in February, Apples iOS claimed 27.6 percent of the smartphone market in urban China, according to Kantar Worldpanel ComTech sales data. Thats an all-time high and a marked jump from its 17.9 percent share in the same period last year."
Apple also sold every single 18K Gold Apple Watch Edition available in China also in under 10 minutes for the equivalent of $20,000 each.
Your prediction will be added to the thousands made in the last 40 years. I'm still waiting for even one to come close.
No watch can be said to be "waterproof" under federal regulations, only "water resistant" to specific depths. The Apple Watch is water resistant in that you can wash your hands, and probably take a shower while wearing itsome Apple staff claim they dobut they strongly recommend not swimming with one. Too bad.
There really is no reason Apple could not make one pressure proof to a considerable depth except there is a port under one of the bracelet connector slidea. . . which, apparently provides access to the interior. Everything else is sealed.
I can think of many reasons to have one. . . especially for women who carry their iPhones in their purses. Phone call or text comes in. . . and they are forever digging in their purses trying to get their iPhone out to answer or check the text. Most often the call goes to message before they can get it out or they may drop the phone in fumbling for it. With the Apple Watch they don't need to constantly dig for their iPhone. . . They can see the text at a glance or answer the call.
Similarly, guys who keep their iPhones in pockets can merely glance to see if the text is important or answer without digging their phone out of their pocket all the time. There are lots of other functions separate from the iPhone. . . that tie from the iPhone or back to it.
Thefts of iPhones should drop with the use of the Apple Watch. . . the run by and snatch thefts won't happen with the watch being used instead. ApplePay will be easier and more convenient.
And, of course, you can use it as a time telling device with as many complications as you desire.
