Phoenix, Arizona A robber was apprehended today in Phoenix, Arizona after stopping to talk with none other than Bill Murray.
Phoenix Police Chief Tom Downey told local news station ABC15 about the incident.
The man had just robbed a Wells Fargo ATM, ran out, saw Bill Murray walking on the sidewalk and stopped to talk to him. Thats when authorities were able to apprehend him.
Bill Murray, who is in town visiting friends, told reporters about the incident.
I saw this man on the sidewalk running towards me with a bag in his hand. Then he suddenly stopped when he saw me. He asked me if I was the zombie Bill Murray from Zombieland. I told him, sure, why not. Then he started telling me how much he loved me, and how Ghostbusters is now his favorite movie, I dunno, and some other things. I was polite, I told him that was very nice of him to say. Then kind of out of nowhere, police showed up and tackled the man, Murray said. Some people might call me a hero, but Im no hero. The real heroes today are the men and women of the Phoenix Police Department.
36-year-old Phoenix resident Paul Horner was at the ATM when the robbery happened.
I was just standing behind this guy waiting my turn when suddenly he starts busting in the ATM with all these tools. So he gets it open and fills a bag up with whatever was in the machine, then he runs out the door and down the street, Horner said. It happened so fast for me to be scared or even shaken up about it. What I am shaken up about is that Bill Murray was the one who stopped this guy and I didnt get a chance to meet him. Horner continued, Bill Murray is my personal hero and today he was an actual hero for the city of Phoenix. What cant that living legend do?
Murray told reporters he is coming back to Phoenix at the end of the month for a music festival.
The McDowell Mountain Music Festival is playing on the 27th and Im definitely going to that, went there last year and it was just fantastic, plus its for a really good cause too, said Murray. Then I find out a place called Buds Glass Joint is throwing a concert with the four main headliners of the McDowell music festival the day before, and thats a free concert, so Im going to go to that now too, ya know, why not, should be fun.
The robber, whose name has not been released yet, was apprehended and taken into police custody. On his person police found a gun and a bag filled with an undisclosed amount of money.
Oh, you’re no fun anymore.
I love Bill Murray.
He told me I was his favorite actor. So, I got that goin' for me.
To be fair, Bill didn’t stop anything. The robbery already occurred and the idiot thief stopped on his own.
Good story though.
Goonga la doonga.
Ned Ryerson?
Bing!
He lives in Charleston, SC and does stuff like that ALL THE TIME. He is just a very funny person. Loves to play with the public.
“Superior intelligence, and superior firepower.”
That’s what I think of every time I hear a story like this about him
Who Ya gonna call!
Evidently the governments of Japan and the United States are planting stories of this Bill Murray ability to stop bank robberies, as a deterrent to future bank robberies.
It is part of their "Minority Report" experiment.
and not the pretend guy on TV
Murry will be on all the talk shows telling that story, lol.
Did he do a Bronco Billy?
That must have been quite a set of tools for him to bust open an ATM that quickly. If an ATM can be broken into that easily, you’d think that they’d be getting hit all the time.
It sounds like Bill Murray is not attempting to exploit this incident, and is acknowledging that he really did nothing to aid in the capture of this guy - he just happened to be walking down the street.
