I work in a major department store west of the Pittsburgh area and I sold some jewelry to a lady who was buying it foe her grandaughter's tea party. Just to make conversation, I referenced the Tea Party political group. She said how bad they were and Ted Cruz is "too Christian." I asked, "what do you mean by that?" She said, "I'm Catholic and liberal," and I replied, "hopefully if him or someone like him was elected, we can start to fix the damage of the last 7 years." She didn't like it.
People like that drive me nuts. I kept hearing the voice of my late mother, "how can people be so da@# dumb?" I guess she is the "typical Pittsburgh Democrat" who would vote for Democrats, even for Satan, if he ran Democrat. Several thoughts ran into my mind.
First off, Catholics are Christians, many are here of course and we all do not like the way the country is headed. I wonder about the Pope's politics at times, but that's for another time. Also, it pains me to see people who have strong religious beliefs picked on like that. Religion does not matter to me, as long as there are no human or animal sacrifices and that the religion does not preach "kill thy neighbor." However since she degraded Christians with strong religious beliefs, it rubbed me the wrong way plus it adds to the climate of anti-Christian and anti-Semitic that is going on today.
I do have the same beliefs personally although I do admit, I'm libertarian, heck, I consider myself a "South Park libertarian/conservative." Sometimes I call myself a "Barry Goldwater type," I know with some here, I've gotten into debates and yes, we do not always agree, but that's life. I just question the role of government in many moral matters, it should be left to the States, locals and the people themselves to regulate themselves as the case may be. Like Glenn Beck puts it, marriage is not the place of government but the people themselves and what religious beliefs they have.
I just shook my head thinking about where "sheeple" like that vote. They do not know or care that the Democrats of today are so far down the rabbit hole that in comparison, Hubert Humphrey would look conservative. FDR is long gone.
No Starbucks for me either. I’m waiting for the new Dunkin Donuts to open up. It’s a block before the Starbucks on my way to work. Just what I need, DONUTS!
Starbucks is way past their Liberal Expiration Date.
But...but I thought that was the language of liberals...or is that muslims?
Sigh...I can never keep it straight.
I would have paid good Money to be there.
Liberals are nothing but Spoiled Children in Adult Bodies.
When I’m somewhere and they have CNN or PMSNBC on, I just laugh when I hear something stupid, which means I laugh all the time. When it gets to be too much, I get and leave.
Today’s Liberals would have no problem Marching all us Conservative Types into Concentration Camps if they could get away with it. Of that I have no doubt.
While we laugh at what they say, they seethe with anger over every word we say. That is the difference between us.
What she meant was:
“I’m a liberal who pretends to be Catholic, so as to shield my heresy.”
Depends in how badly you need the job.... I’m past needing a job so I pretty much say the truth these days...Lol...age does have its advantages
“I’m Catholic and liberal,” [she said]
Then you’re not Catholic.
I’ve never understood the appeal of Starbucks. I hate their coffee and can’t think of any reason to go there.
Here’s the thing. She told you flat out she’s liberal. There is no GOP candidate she would vote for. Cruz is just the one she really won’t vote for. She won’t vote for Bush or Walker or Rand Paul either. She will however vote for whatever POS liberal the Dems nominate. In fact she will walk through a rainstorm to do it. We never had her vote anyway.
Well I was out with some big libs last night. They’re off Walker for now, and focused on Cruz. Clearly agitated about his candidacy, they brought up- “too inexperienced”, “Top 1%” (wife working for GS), “Canadian born”, and “bashes Obamacare but gladly uses it”. I was clearly outnumbered, and tried to just give them the facts, but these idiots got their marching orders from CNN to destroy him. Considering he’s the only one with the balls who’s been trying to stop Obama, I say they have their work cut out for them.
I live in a “conservative” area and even here what your son saw, I see also (I teach middle school CCD). Young people either are hostile to America or indifferent.
My nieces (from New York) were surprized during their college year abroad to find young people from other countries were proud of their countries. All the American kids were proud of their state or city but not of country.
Conservative/patriotic ideas are in the extreme minority.
This would have been my cue to respond, "We're ALL offended by your infantile outbursts, but we're adults who understand there's no law against being offended. Now grow up and drop it."
First, like others have stated, keep your opinions in check while at your occupation. Look at a dollar bill of any denomination and know that the face on the bill is the party that you subscribe to.
Second, I just about quit arguing with liberals. Now, I just want to discourage them...fight emotion with emotion. For instance, I might say that “Obama lied to us and Hillary Clinton has too.”
FWIW
Good summary.
Hubert Humphrey was one of the last, good Democrats. Sure on some things, I would disagree with him on but I feel more confident and better if he was President than the nimrod in the White Hut we have now.
