A 2008 ban on new fast-food restaurants in South L.A. has failed to cut the obesity rate, a Rand study says
Seven years ago, Los Angeles made national headlines with a novel attempt to reduce obesity in South L.A. by banning new fast-food restaurants.
But a new study found the effort has not achieved its intended goal.
A Rand Corp. report released Thursday says that from 2007 to 2012, the percentage of people who were overweight or obese increased everywhere in L.A., but the increase was significantly greater in areas covered by the fast-food ordinance, including Baldwin Hills and Leimert Park.
The study also found fast-food consumption went up in South L.A. as well as across the county during that time.

Needs more money for enforcement and education of the population.
Drones hovering over everyone, and looking in every kitchen window.
Yup, the liberals favorite saying is: “We just need to educate people more so they can see how smart we are.”
Overeating doesn’t have so much to do with the availability of food as it does with personality disorders and lifestyle issues.
For the most part, it seems that poor people are fat and wealthier people are in better shape. I wonder if one causes the other or they’re just related in some way.
Did the Ban include the Taco Stands on every corner ?
It’s hilarious.
KCBS had some Indian immigrant on this morning who apparently is one of LA county’s health cops and he was bemoaning that it was just too difficult to get people to change blah blah.
Uh...what business is it of yours?
Mexicans gonna eat greasy tacos and cheesy burritos and the black people gonna eat that fried stuff. Oh Well. That’s what they like.
And you’ll change it how? Have them shop at Whole Paycheck for Politically Correct food?
The same self-discipline which makes successful people finish school and excel in their careers, also leads them to pay attention to their health with proper diet and exercise.
Libtards are absolutely stupid. There are countless taco shops in South L.A. and they think they can shut every one of them?
Obesity is related to nutrition. Poor nutrition and you eat more. Nutrition is not a lack of quantity, but quality, thus rich people tend to be thinner, not fatter.
Highly processed foods tend to be full of empty calories.
Here’s the problem: people in the Los Angeles area own cars on a huge scale. They can easily drive within 45 minutes of anywhere and find all kinds of fast-food places, including lunch trucks. In short, that new law is essentially useless.
California Stupid on display, try banning EBT cards and watch them lose weight!
Nah... they just feel good about themselves for wanting to do something about the obesity problem,
and restricting something people enjoy gives them that extra “superior” feeling as well.
They don’t care if it worked or not.
Liberals are throwing a tantrum over the Michigan senate passing a bill that allows 3 bake sales per week in public schools.
Obviously their real issue is that the republicans are thwarting the will of the almighty feds.

What annoys me is when they babble about "slow food". You think because it arrives more slowly it is healthy? Really? You are that dim?
When liberal policies fail, as they always do, liberals always demand a strengthening of the failed policies, which also fail, leading liberals to demand a strengthening ....
It never ends.
“you can’t buy fast food with food stamps.”
Ha. Actually, you can buy *anything* with EBT/food stamps. Oh, you meant legally?
