Record heat for this time of year is expected Friday and Saturday but may climb even higher on Sunday. Seto warned that the heat could strain the power grid and that outages are possible.

Marathon organizers have moved up the race's start time by 30 minutes because of the expected heat.

The start time for the race is now set for 6:55 a.m., when a temperature of 64 degrees with a humidity of 40% in downtown Los Angeles is expected. By the time the first runners make it to Santa Monica — likely between noon and 1 p.m. — the temperature is expected to have reached 80 degrees.

80 degrees is now considered a “record breaking temperature” that will “strain the grid” in Los Angeles???

This, in a city that regularly sees temperatures far exceeding that, for months on end?

It is to laugh.

What’s the air quality like in LA these days?

Not bad, compared to what it was when I was a kid in the 50s and 60s. We used to regularly be sent home from school, or they'd keep us from going out for recess, because the smog was so heavy.

Much as I hate the EPA and all of the government regulations on emissions, I've gotta admit that they made a huge difference there.

This time it’s a “dry” heat—about 20% humidity.

Oh gosh....I guess that really will "strain the grid".

Just wondering out loud, are the fires of Hell considered a dry heat?

Lucky basterds...

There is still a lot of snow in my part of the USA. Cold, too.

Since when is 80° "hot"? We consider that pleasantly warm.

Try running 26 miles in it and staying hydrated enough to prevent damage. If humid, it gets worse.

My thoughts were how they claim 80 degrees might cause power shortages/outages and grid problems - in La-La Land no less.
