Record-breaking heat expected for weekend, L.A. Marathon
L A Times ^

Posted on 03/13/2015 3:20:39 PM PDT by BenLurkin

Record heat for this time of year is expected Friday and Saturday but may climb even higher on Sunday. Seto warned that the heat could strain the power grid and that outages are possible.

...

Marathon organizers have moved up the race's start time by 30 minutes because of the expected heat.

The start time for the race is now set for 6:55 a.m., when a temperature of 64 degrees with a humidity of 40% in downtown Los Angeles is expected. By the time the first runners make it to Santa Monica — likely between noon and 1 p.m. — the temperature is expected to have reached 80 degrees.

I really hope this isn’t a sign of what’s to come this summer. Last year was pretty unbearable, even by the beach.

Global Warming is back!

I predict that over the next several months it will get steadily warmer across the Northern hemisphere. By August it will be much warmer than it was in January and Global Warming will be undeniable.

We must increase taxes and government control before it is too late!

I was in Puerto Rico about a year ago and they happened to be having a marathon in San Juan. They start at 5am. There was all kinds of ruckus around our hotel.

Hmm, slow marathoners like me finish in 4-5 hours. Faster ones under 3 hours.
80 isn’t that hot anyway.
I ran San Francisco in 2013; it was close to 80 when we got towards the finish line in the Mission District.

What’s the air quality like in LA these days?

I remember going to race driving school there back in the 70s and we had to stop in the afternoon because our lungs were burning like crazy.

Malachi 3:19 For lo, the sun comes, glowing like a furnace, and all the audacious sinners and all the perpetrators of wickedness will be stubble. And the sun that comes shall burn them up so that it will leave them neither root nor branch, says the Lord of Hosts.

Santa Monica is halfway into the course, which means the first runners will reach it in just over an hour, or 8 a.m., and they will complete the ~2:10 race by 9:05. Something in the writer's premise is incorrect. Perhaps the "last" runners was meant.

” Perhaps the “last” runners was meant. “

Likely.
80 isn’t that bad; especially if the water stations are adequate.

Smog in LA is much, much improved, thanks largely to aggressive state requirements mandating improved pollution equipment on new cars and smog-checks-and-repairs on older vehicles before re-registration.

Organizers are doubling up on all the route barf buckets. The barf buckets will be staged every 500 feet along the route where the rainbow flags are displayed.

80° is tough for marathoners, even with good watering.

I don’t understand why anyone would go to LA or Santa Monica. Ya couldn’t take me there in a complementary fully stocked stretch limo.

The pro AGW crowd does not recognize weather cycles & think their forecasts are any better than the local weatherman.

Since when is 80° "hot"?

We consider that pleasantly warm.
