The Koenigsegg Regera is the latest supercar from the small, Swedish brand, and its specifications will blow your mind as easily as the car can blow you away.
The two-seat, mid-motor, carbon fiber machine, whose name means "to reign" in Swedish, features a unique plug-in hybrid powertrain with a total output of 1,500 horsepower, and can reach its top speed 249 mph in less than 20 seconds.
And it does it with just one gear.

Pretty impressive performance for a hybrid. (Of course, pretty spectacular for any car.)
I believe that the pure thoroughbred in the Keonigsegg stable is the One:1. Probably the greatest sports car that has ever been made and put into production. For a company which claims that it doesn't care about top speed, it sure makes some blindingly fast cars.

And a long, very straight road. You do not want to hit a puddle or have to maneuver at that sort of speed.

Exactly...Not a car for a hotrodding amateur that likes to take chances.

Has the worst damn cup holders in the business.
Wipers lift off at 195 mph.
No 8-track? What are these Swedes thinking?
Had to scratch it off my list as a possible replacement for my '71 MGB.

It seems the "hybrid" part is more about creating an electric transmission and drive train than about saving the world from the demons that haunt algore.
Interesting from that perspective. Of course, R.G. LeTourneau was the pioneer in this technology, and that was a long, long time ago.
Algore probably has nightmares about this early hybrid success...

Since it’s an alternative fuel vehicle do you get to drive it in the car pool lane?

It's fascinating stuff.
LeTourneau's story is inspiring. He wrote a book called "Mover of Men and Mountains". His machines were developed at the same time of Caterpillar's, and it is arguable (iirc) that his bulldozer was the first. The university he started is going stronger than ever.

I have to point out that his machines weren’t strictly “hybrids” — they didn’t use batteries. They were all electric powered by diesel generators — his invention and design.

He was a giant of industry, instrumental in the war effort, employed and educated many...changed countless lives for the better and yet nobody’s heard of him. He probably is OK with that, though.
