Dogs can tell the difference between happy and angry human facial expressions, a study has revealed.

Researchers from the University of Vienna devised an experiment where 11 dogs were trained to associate either a happy or an angry face with a food reward.

In a subsequent test, the scientists showed the dogs images , either of human faces they had not seen in their training, or of just half a human face.

Dogs are the only non-primate species known to look at human faces from the right to the left.

It now turns out dogs can also read human facial expressions and can tell when humans are happy or when they're angry.

The new study has revealed just how much truth there is to the expression the dog is "man's best friend."

U.K. taxpayers paid to figure this out.

For a change, stupidity wasn’t funded by us.

We needed a study to figure this out? They read our eyes for sure. I know my dog does. I can make her think about food if I raise my eyebrows. On second thought, she’s ALWAYS thinking about food. LOL

So, they needed a taxpayer study to establish something that everyojne who’s ever owned a dog figured out almost immediately?

My dog, A German Shepherd, knows every, single thing. She keeps track of every detail, no matter how small.

She understands just about every word spoken to her, and she speaks back.

She is smarter than me by a lot, I am ashamed to admit.

I have caught myself a number of times wishing I could hear what her thoughts sound like.

She constantly calculates and measures everything. Seems to know what I am doing before I even start doing it.

If you want proof that dog is “man’s best friend”, lock your dog and your wife in the trunk of your car, and see which one is happy to see you, when you open it.

The University of Vienna has a campus in the UK?

Amazing what one learns on FR.

Ours, too.

Actually, she’s quite bossy when she wants to be. She doesn’t ‘bark’...she ‘talks’.

Very verbose, that girl. I relish every moment with her the last couple years she has left.

My 13 1/2 year old golden "Glory" is making her final trip to the vet tomorrow. Old age and cancer have caught up with her.

It now turns out dogs can also read human facial expressions and can tell when humans are happy or when they're angry.

Being able to understand when his human is annoyed or happy with him is a survival characteristic. Over thousands of doggy generations, you would expect them to get good at it.

They used taxpayer funds to do this? This is basic common sense. My wife said she is sometimes ‘creeped out’ about how human our Emma, a Standard Poodle, is with her interactions.
