BRYAN CRANSTON: FROM METH COOK TO HITLER APOLOGIST
February 11, 2015
The magnificent new book Hollywood Traitors by Allan Ryskind, son of Hollywood royalty (Marx Brothers screenwriter Morrie Ryskind), has been published just in time for the release of "Trumbo," in which Bryan Cranston will portray Hitler apologist Dalton Trumbo as a hero.
I'm guessing the movie skips over Trumbo's aggressive efforts to prevent America from joining the fight against Hitler. To that end, Trumbo wrote two of the most ghastly anti-war films ever made, "Johnny Got His Gun," released as a novel in 1939, and "The Remarkable Andrew," published in 1941.
To place this in context for Hollywood half-brights, in 1938 Hitler invaded Austria and seized the Sudetenland -- sweeping through the rest of Czechoslovakia the following year. On Sept. 1, 1939, the Fuhrer invaded Poland, finally forcing France and England to go to war with Germany.

Cranston has been playing Eisenhower on Broadway.
I know Cranston is most likely your typical progressive actor, but I wouldn’t attack someone for a role they play.
I’m SURE he isn’t a Meth cook either. lol
Yup . Lots of American communists were in bed with hitler (he was after all a national SOCIALIST), while uncle Joe had that nonaggression pact with Germany. Once operation Barbarossa started and Hitler attacked The Soviets.... American marxists changed their tune about being pacifists and wanted Hitlers blood.
Funny how that works?
It’s an act, Ann.
Just like yours.
“Johnny Got His Gun” is required reading in some school districts.
I was forced to read Johnny Got His Gun in high school. It sucked.
Why’s Ann upset with Cranston for an acting role, hell she cozies up to lot’s of actors pretending to be Conservatives.
Amazing contrast, from his goofy role in "Malcolm in the Middle."
“Johnny Got His Gun’
That book actually had a happy ending. The limbless Canadian soldier learned to play baseball after he was released from the hospital.
And his American hosts graciously allowed him play home plate.
Speaking of gladiator movies ..... didja know Trumbo wrote the screenplay for `Spartacus’.
Man, he really managed to wrap that one completely around the axle! Huh?
Remember that scene when the gladiators are finally caught (stealing chickens), they’re all sitting on a hill feeling glum and the Romans want to know, Hey, hey!—Who in the heck is this Spartacus fella?
Right? Remember?
Well, then everyone and his brother is standing up and taking turns saying “I’m Spartacus!”.
When we all know that Spartacus is the guy with all the muscles and the hole in his chin. I’m surprised they didn’t catch that boo boo.
He was also a Communist more than a Hitler Apologist.
Oh, I agree completely!
Breaking Bad is one of my favorite TV shows of all time! Mike was my favorite character though. Saul and Walter are probably tied for 2nd place.
BrBa is one of THE best series I have ever seen! Also binged it on NF.
Dalton Trumbo was a jerk, but a lot of the country opposed getting involved. Two men who went on to become president for starters.
We got an abbreviated version of the character change on Better Call Saul. Saul went from mediocre contract attorney to realizing he could be a good defense attorney after negotiating for the skate punks lives in the desert.
That is Ann's point. He supported Hitler when it was the "party line" to do so. Calling someone a Communist is considered a compliment now, so Ann stressed the CP's pro-Hitler position during the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact.
Ironically, Trumbo also wrote the screenplay for Exodus. The Communist world internationally had turned against Israel by then (though it hadn't yet broken relations), but inside the United States the hard Left continued (doubtless on Moscow's orders) to claim a monopoly on pro-Israel sentiment.
Saul and Mike have returned in Better Call Saul.
LOL! Well said.
