Williamsburg mom prepared to face charges for abandoning “dangerous” son

Williamsburg, Va. – Kimberlyn Williams feels unsafe in her own home because of her 12-year-old son.

“I am his mother and I do love him, but he`s dangerous,” Williams says.

She says he’s so dangerous that she is prepared to face jail time to keep him out of the house, to not only protect herself, but her two younger children.

“I have been hit, bit, kicked,” she says. “He has threatened to stab children at school, to kill them. He has these outbursts.”

She says her son is now at Riverside Behavioral Health Center in Hampton. He was put there after Williams called police last week because of what she says she witnessed between her son and four-year-old daughter.

“When I went in, I found him exposing himself to her and trying to coerce her to touch him,” Williams says.

Williams says that was the final straw after years of violent and inappropriate behavior, and years of trying to get him the help he needs.

“It`s not a case of us not trying to get him help,” she says. “This is not an isolated incident. It’s been a gauntlet of doctors and medications and diagnoses.”

Her son is set to be released Thursday, but Williams does not want to bring him home.

“If I do not show up to get him, I will face criminal charges or child abandonment,” she says.

Williams says Child Protective Services told her if she refuses to take him, her son would be placed in a 24-hour supervision residential facility — something she’s wanted all along. She says it would take police arresting her to get her wish.

“I want something to get done,” Williams says. “I don`t want it to be you take this one and you risk your other children’s health and safety or you go to jail. There has to be a better way.”

To get her son the help he needs, Williams says she’s prepared to face the consequences.

“Nobody wants to talk about this,” she says. “It`s something we would certainly consider a private family issue, but along those lines maybe it can help other people.”

Neither James City County Police nor CPS will comment

We haven’t gotten to the point where the state must anticipate that someone will commit a crime ... and put him in jail BEFORE he commits it. They must be either “in the very act of it” ... or ... have committed it, and NOT if he’s standing there “thinking about it”!

There are no “pre-crime” statutes in that someone MAY commit the crime but they haven’t ... and there better never be that kind of situation.

If you were a young boy, which would you pick?

There is however being a danger to yourself or others.

I haven’t ... but maybe I just didn’t have big enough of a family ... only one child ... and an adult now.

BUT keep in mind here that FReepers are all about KEEPING THE STATE OUT OF THE FAMILY ... and that’s a very important point to a lot of FReepers! So let’s MAINTAIN THAT!

But it hasn’t been maintained. The state is already in family life and has been for years. Sometimes for better and sometimes for worse but in family life in any case.

This woman has a 12 year old that obviously has some mental problems. She can’t keep her other children safe with him in the home.

Just stating that it shouldn’t be that way isn’t going to change the reality on the ground.

You’re making an argument for how things should be in a perfect world. Which none of us inhabit.

In a perfect world the kid wouldn’t be violent and trying to molest his 4 year old sister.

When I was a young child there was a boy in our neighborhood that was totally nuts and very dangerous. This was a military officer area and intact family. He tied his younger sister to a bed and tried to burn her to death. Luckily the parents caught him. He set fires in the woods, killed animals etc. He shot me off my bike with a b-b gun, right into the path of a car. I don’t know what happened, but my Dad made him disappear.

You said, “In a perfect world the kid wouldn’t be violent and trying to molest his 4 year old sister.”

The issue I raised was never about that. It was assumed that these things would always be the case, as they have been throughout history.

The ISSUE is whether the STATE intrudes in on family matters or whether the FAMILY takes care of itself.

NOW ... you seem to be saying that since it’s already happened that the state is intruding ... that we should just figure “They’re in there now and we have to just go with it!” That’s not what I hear from other FReepers. They maintain that we have to PUSH BACK and CHANGE IT so to get them out of family affairs. You don’t get the state out by inviting them in and “mouthing off” that you want them out! ... LOL ...

One of the neighborhoods I lived in as a kid had boy like that.
Not sure if you’re suggesting somebody disappear this kid or just telling something that happened in your neighborhood.

Can’t she just put him up for adoption?

Who would even want to take him? ... and that seems to be the problem right now ... no one wants him! [ ... and for whatever reason they have ... ]

In our state if parents refuse to take a dangerous child home, and there is evidence of a problem off to residential. There are kids who should be locked up. Too dangerous from the get go

When you hear the stories about how 6 cops were called into subdue a third grader, know that the third grader is probably 11 or 12 or an out of control dangerous kid.

Then I assume the state would have to take him.
I’m sure a gay couple would take him as a political presentation.

I said the state is already in family life.
I also said this woman obviously needs a solution to a problem that is bigger than she can deal with.
She asked for help. The kid was put in a mental ward but now is being released.
The mother says she can’t protect her other children from him but her option is take him in, or go to jail and lose her other children.

You say it’s a family issue and the state shouldn’t be involved.
So basically your position is that it’s her hard luck. Too bad for her and her other kids that the boy is mentally ill.

I wonder what would make a 12 year old so bad.

The boy is a danger to others, and should be institutionalized.

______________

Thanks to your nearest leftist there are little to no institutions.

Why should the state take responsibility and pay for it, to boot?!

___________________

Prior to states taking responsibility for the mentally ill and building the big state mental health facilities, families locked the mentally ill in rooms, icehouses, or attics. Neighbors and family killed the mentally ill and they were often executed

State facilities were seen as compassion in helping families by caring for the mentally and severely developmentally delayed. They got three hots and a cot.

There is no situation so bad that the petty tyrants of government can’t make worse.
