Well, I have accepted the challenge, and this is a preview of the New Cooking (and things related) Thread.
I'll post a tried-and-true recipe each week, on Friday evening; and I hope we generate lots of Good Cookin'!
I'd like it to also include recommendations of kitchen-ways - equipment that people find useful, techniques from Old Folks and Old Days, and new-fangled stuff, as well.
(As an example: The Husband Unit and I have a bet on the Super Bowl, and if my team wins I get to buy one of those little counter-top ovens that are run on tea-light candles. It's looking iffy at this point; but I'll get the stove anyway ;-)
Best,
JT, always prepping for good eating in Hard Times :-)
Please add me to your list.

I’ve a number of site addies with vintage recipes and such. The colonial period as well as the medieval and even some of the retro era 1950’x If you’d like will get a listing together for you as at the moment attempting to bring the master list up to date to be certain all links are active.
This is one you might enjoy

You’ve taken on a big task. Thank you much!
Oops and Pioneer Woman. She’s great. Are you familiar with The Homesick Texan?
hi, IF YOU ENJOY SOUTHERN PLATE, you might also like this one.

The green bean recipe is the same my great gm and great aunts served regularly. Man, was that good!
An oven heated by tea lights? Where have I been? Ecstatic when a microwave and slow cooker were seen in my kitchen.

I haven’t heard of either of them, I’m checking them out right now. Southern food is something I always love learning more about because my husband grew up on it.
But what if there’s no electricity?
That’s why this thing is so cool...

Margarine is poison (even rodents won’t eat it), Canadian bacon is just ham, I’m OK with the chicken breast but only because I detest chicken thighs, and “low-fat” anything means more chemicals than you can name. Low fat cream of mushroom soup from a can is just WRONG! On so many levels I cannot explain it’s WRONG!
The brown rice was a nice touch, mind you. It covers many slip-ups.
I’m glad your friend enjoyed your meal. I humbly suggest you introduce her to REAL food.
Please add me to the list. Love it!

Cooks -have fun!
And no, this is NOT the mooch in disguise!!!!
If there is no electric, we have the fireplace. It leaves a lot to be desired but it heats, cooks, and all round comfort when needed. Several times in the past years, it was used. We live in the country and electric is certainly not up to city expectations. LOL for that matter, neither is the internet.
I will check those out, thanks.

Check on their site. They have two sizes. Also they have a cooker that works off of scraps. You could probably put that in your fireplace. I also checked out tealights on the internet and some must be better than others. One thing is for sure you need to stock up on those if you have the oven. Thanks for posting the info.
