Well, I have accepted the challenge, and this is a preview of the New Cooking (and things related) Thread.
I'll post a tried-and-true recipe each week, on Friday evening; and I hope we generate lots of Good Cookin'!
I'd like it to also include recommendations of kitchen-ways - equipment that people find useful, techniques from Old Folks and Old Days, and new-fangled stuff, as well.
(As an example: The Husband Unit and I have a bet on the Super Bowl, and if my team wins I get to buy one of those little counter-top ovens that are run on tea-light candles. It's looking iffy at this point; but I'll get the stove anyway ;-)
Best,
JT, always prepping for good eating in Hard Times :-)
I used to be a caterer, both of our children are foodies, love to eat and know how to cook. lol
The rule for holiday meals in our house is that we may add to the traditional menu but we can not substitute for nor subtract anything from the traditional foods.
That sounds delicious! I will be trying it soon :)
I love pumpkin custard! I will try that recipe soon!
Please add me, too
GOLDEN SWEET CORNBREAD
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup yellow cornmeal
2/3 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 egg
1 cup milk
1/3 cup vegetable oil.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spray or lightly grease 9 inch round cake pan....this is where a cast iron skillet as a sub is definitely a plus!!
In large bowl combine, flour, cornmeal, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Stir in egg, milk and vegetable oil till well combined. Pour batter into prepared pan.
Bake in preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or till toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean.
This is a cake-like cornbread.
Thanks! Allrecipes is used frequently here as well. Recipe Goldmine was visited a good many times. With Googles new search there are a number of different sites found which in the past were never shown. And, all the food blogs are just amazing. There are some magnificent chefs out there who are constantly publishing new recipes. Feel like a kid in a candy shop :)
Please add me to the Ping list.
Thank you for starting the new Recipe/Cooking Thread.
Does peanut soup really taste like peanuts or is the flavor subdued somewhat. I like peanut butter but I’m not sure I would want a whole bowl full of it. I have come to absolutely love the Peanut Butter Company’s Dark Chocolate Dreams on sliced apples.
Please include me on your list. Thanks.
It didn’t taste anything like ‘peanuts’ to me. That was the marvel of it; it’s just a silky, very neutral soup that can take any seasonings that you put into it.

Butter is very healthy for you! Especially grass-fed. I used to use Fleishman’s margarine (after telling my mother we needed to switch.) I am now using the grass fed butter as well as the good kinds of olive oil and coconut oil. I should have listened to Mom. She always knew best! :)
I’m going to try it! Thanks!
Thanks! Hadn’t heard of Recipe Goldmine. I’ll have to check that out.
Please add me to your list!
Thanks for doing this!
I can’t believe I have never heard of the HERC oven before. I had to do a search. From what I gather they come in varied sizes. What kind of HERC are you going to get and how many candles? :) From the reviews, some said it cooked better than their conventional oven.
DRIED BEEF CHEESEBALL
This is a bit late - super duper bowl is history. However, it is very good on any day of the week. Dried Beef once found on shelves with the canned meats. It came in a clear glass jar. Sheets of dried beef rolled and vacuum packed. Armour was the brand
The spread is delicious on crackers and probably anything else you might want to put on. This is a link to the recipe

Easy peasy and very tasty.

Also on the website is a rocket stove that uses scraps that looks promising.
I have a sun oven in the closet, I may have to invest in the HERC.
Here are just a few of my favorites. I love the recipes and pictures at these sites:

Wow! thanks so much. The Southern Plate is the only one you listed that I’m familiar with. I’ll check them out.
I couldn’t believe that I’d never heard of it either, because I’m always looking for this kind of thing. We just found it today, while streaming Youtube videos to do with ‘Prepping’.
I’m only aware of the basic one, that burns two trays of ten tealights each.
We live in an apartment building; and I’ve been afraid of the little propane stoves. But this little ‘Herc’ guy would be perfect, for making some biscuits, or a little chicken casserole.
The cool thing is that we do have a wood-burning fireplace; and this little thing would be worry-free, sitting in there.
