Sarah Palin Slips into Self-Parody
National Review ^ | January 26, 2015 | Charles C. W. Cooke

Posted on 01/26/2015 6:22:08 PM PST by MinnesotaLibertarian

Skipping to the end:

...

Consider, if you will, what happens to a person who suggests that Sarah Palin is anything other than saintly. Right off the bat, they are accused of disliking America or Alaska or conservatives or mothers or the working class — or even women in general — and then they are informed that their “hatred” is showing. Next, their motives are questioned and their supposedly secret “agenda” is exposed for the world to see, for no right-thinking person could dislike Palin on the merits, natch. “I hope you enjoy your elite cocktail parties,” the apologists will say, and then they will huffily tell you that they “hope signaling that you are ‘one of them’ was worth it.” And finally — as is the case when one expresses disapproval of other cult figures, such as President Obama, Ron Paul, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, and Paul Krugman — it is presumed that all animadversion must be motivated by envy or by snobbery or by secret admiration, and that it can therefore be safely ignored. “What have you done,” they will ask, “that compares to my paragon of virtue?” All told, it’s really quite pathetic.

...

Having been mercilessly and unjustly pilloried by the media throughout the 2008 campaign, Sarah Palin had a clear choice in its aftermath: She could sober up and prove the buggers wrong, or she could collapse into ignominious pasquinade. Sadly, she chose the latter. The rest of us should choose to move on.

"ignominious pasquinade"

That's one helluva insult, I don't care who you are.

Yesiree. That's a doozy.

Finest insult I ever saw hurled.

Credit where credit is due.

Exactly..if her speech were so terrible, they wouldn’t even bother talking about her..they would be talking about Ted Cruz instead..I didnt see Sarah’s speech so I really can’t pass judgment on it, but she did speak the night before, so if anything she could have been very tired..but either way, they only go after her..if she is so irrelevant they should leave her the heck alone but they dont, tells me everything I need to know

I actually used to subscribe to the paper version of that, and saw it’s gradual deterioration happen right before my eyes! It was even before i joined FR, so it was a while ago!

“by giving a rambling speech with no theme”

I watched it.

There was a theme and a number of topic. It was not disjointed.

It was informal.

I hate to say this, but I think the people calling her stupid and making an incoherent speech are the ones who aren’t that bright.

I had to look up “pasquinade.”

What a delicious word.

There is absolutely nothing that Sarah Palin could ever do or say that would change the media perception of her. They despise her for what she believes.

Some of the Freepers on here who think she is “unelectable” because of her not finishing her governorship - give me a break. Most of the leftwing jokers on the dem side are absolute morons, yet because the media props them up - no problem.

I don’t care who on the conservative side winds up in the primaries - the media and the GOPe will excoriate them - as well as several Freepers who, no matter what conservative rises to the top - somehow they will NEVER be quite good enough for their vote.

Sarah? I would vote for her in a heart beat. Do I think she has a shot? I honestly do not know because of all the damage done to her by the drive-by media, SNL, late night comics. For many people, the perception has become the reality. But, the very idea that she has done herself harm since the the 2008 election? No way! The mainstream media has kept up their character assassination on her non-stop. There is NOTHING she could ever do or say to change the media from promoting the lie they have created.

Could she overcome that? Well, the media also despised Reagan too and he overcame it. So, maybe she could too.

First of all, she fulfilled every one of her campaign promises already. Most Governors never do.

Secondly, the frivolous charges that Democrat operatives were bringing against her was costing Alaska money. I believe the last figure that I read was around $1Mil. The Democrats made her toxic to the taxpayers and she refused to continue costing them money. Remember every one of those charges were false and dismissed.

She did what she said she'd do. So you think she should have continued in office and cost Alaskans more money? Sounds selfish and egotistical to me.

“Every person with an (R) is unelectable.” But, that was not the case in November when the (R)s cleaned the (D)s clocks. But, I can’t think of any one of them that has been lampooned, lied about, and attacked consistently for the last seven years by the MSM.

Libs have a scheme of telling a lie enough to the point that it finally becomes the truth. How Orwellian. It worked for them in the last two Presidential cycles, and that tactic hasn’t changed.

Palin is strong with the base, probably the strongest, but the BS baggage that has been thrown on her over the years may well be insurmountable to overcome with the average voter who does not pay attention. Maybe the USA will wake up, but we well be in the same position candidate wise as in 1940. Look who was sworn in in 1941.

You’re not allegedly using a PDS Troll talking point, you ARE using a PDS Troll talking point. If you know anything about Palin, you know the story of her tenure in office, especially AFTER she received the VP nomination.

Great post.

It is ridiculous and irrational.

She has had as much a role as anyone in the gains made by Republicans over the past 5 years.

She had a large hand in helping Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and Joni Earnst get elected, for example and quite importantly in helping Scott Walker survive the most viscous and coordinated attacks against any conservative office holder in a long time (with the attacks on Palin being perhaps the exception).

There truly is a Palin derangement syndrome.

If you liked “pasquinade,” now you’ll have to pasquinade three times for it to become part of your vocabulary. That’s
# 1 and # 2 for me.

Repeating this over and over doesn’t change reality. Her speech this weekend was horrible. It looked like she hadn’t given it much thought and believed that all she had to do was show up and she would be fawned over. If she wants to be a contender (and I don’t think she does), she owes it to us to contend.

You do understand, don't you, that NOBODY is running quite yet. There are NO contenders right now. Demanding that Sarah be in mid-campaign form a year before any serious campaigning begins is pretty silly. I'm not yet in top form for my Christmas carols this year either... there's time.
