Sarah Palin Slips into Self-Parody
National Review ^ | January 26, 2015 | Charles C. W. Cooke

Skipping to the end:

...

Consider, if you will, what happens to a person who suggests that Sarah Palin is anything other than saintly. Right off the bat, they are accused of disliking America or Alaska or conservatives or mothers or the working class — or even women in general — and then they are informed that their “hatred” is showing. Next, their motives are questioned and their supposedly secret “agenda” is exposed for the world to see, for no right-thinking person could dislike Palin on the merits, natch. “I hope you enjoy your elite cocktail parties,” the apologists will say, and then they will huffily tell you that they “hope signaling that you are ‘one of them’ was worth it.” And finally — as is the case when one expresses disapproval of other cult figures, such as President Obama, Ron Paul, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, and Paul Krugman — it is presumed that all animadversion must be motivated by envy or by snobbery or by secret admiration, and that it can therefore be safely ignored. “What have you done,” they will ask, “that compares to my paragon of virtue?” All told, it’s really quite pathetic.

...

Having been mercilessly and unjustly pilloried by the media throughout the 2008 campaign, Sarah Palin had a clear choice in its aftermath: She could sober up and prove the buggers wrong, or she could collapse into ignominious pasquinade. Sadly, she chose the latter. The rest of us should choose to move on.

It seems like for the most part we do. I want a conservative, but I also want a conservative who will win and who can defend conservative principles in a hostile setting. Scott Walker won three elections in four years in a blue state; specifically, after eliminating collective bargaining in a union-heavy state. Ted Cruz of course is a very smart guy and a champion debater, so I have faith in him. Both are far more impressive to me than somebody who can merely electrify friendly crowds.

Oh, thank you for gracing us with your pithy post and comments....especially since you don’t consider FR a priority.

Maybe it’s time for you to go back to finding better things to do with your time.

I realize others might have saw Palin differently...I didn’t like her delivery regardless. And am sorry she seemed so off after just telling people she was interested in running for President. Had she not stated that I probably could over look it...but she did disappoint me .

This forum is full of threads with lively debates about the best way to advance conservative principles. I know there’s a lot of people on the site who support her, but I think she’s a poor choice for conservatives, so I decided to share that opinion by posting an article that I felt articulated that point well. You clearly disagree, and are choosing to make it personal.

I’m putting out the “unelectable” word because that’s what I think she is. But, if she gets the nomination, I won’t stay home. Nice talking go you.

No, you come in and start calling her Names and Doing the Lefts Work for them.

Again after 6 years of Nothing, and Sarah comes out with just TALK of a Possible Run.

All of Sudden, Old Handles with Infrequent Posting Histories Show Up.

How Strange....

Look.

Logging back on just to respond to your posts here.

I think I want to speak up here. I’ve been researching your posting history.

Sure you’ve been here for a number of years. But around (both) recent presidential elections, your posts have been non-existent

Now you return today after a nearly two-year hiatus, and your very first post is a lame attack on Sarah Palin?

I’m questioning why exactly you decided to post this, here, now.

I’m serious.

Why?

AS I said earlier, the left WILL push to make every (R) candidate for president "unelectable". They're very good at it.

I don't think she'll run, but if she does, she's a perfect person to destroy their Alinsky myth.

If she doesn't she will be a very good adviser to the nominee on how to break the Alinsky myth and beat it.

In the mean time, I suggest you think twice before repeating that leftist talking point, because that's where it comes from.

Yes, but she remains unelectable. She does not appeal beyond her loyal following.

I'll go with actual Iowan attendees' first hand account and confirmation of Sarah's reception. Thanks for that feedback 👍

There’s no denying that the prospect of the 2016 race has piqued my interest in politics again, prompting me to start lurking on FR more again. I think it’s very important that we nominate a good candidate in 2016 to start undoing the damage that Obama has done, and feel strongly that Sarah Palin is not that person. Because the MSM doesn’t like her, people default into thinking that “the enemy of my enemy is my friend,” but I believe that is a mistake. Like everyone here, I was disgusted with how the MSM treated her in 2008; doubly so because a lot of the cultural touchstones they made fun of her for are common to northern Minnesota where I grew up. That being said, she’s been deflating ever since, leaving me skeptical of her ability to lead anything other than a crowd of enthusiastic supporters (much like our current President).

It’s my bedtime now so I look forward to catching up on angry pings in the morning.

So You Join in Calling her the "Republicans Obama" as an insult.

Charming.

See posts 142 and 153; I’ve been busy with my family and business and haven’t been on FR very much, but with my time freeing back up and the 2016 election looming on the horizon, I decided to start posting again. Palin has been a hot topic lately, so I gave my two cents. I am definitely now thinking it wasn’t the best choice for reintroduction.

Yep.....Your Concern is Showing Again.

I am glad we let the Mainstream media Pick our Candidates.

If only we had someone they liked....

I said pretty unambiguously that my favored candidates were Ted Cruz and Scott Walker. Hardly darlings of the MSM. This conversation has definitely gotten past any hope of being productive, so I am bowing out.

I’ll grant you that.

Just saying, if you’re sincere, stick around and (don’t) poke Sarah with a stick for several months.

Read what is said. Listen to what is spoken. And let’s see how the race develops.

There is a significant portion of FReepers who were (deeply) disappointed that Sarah stood down at the last moment last go-around.

I’m fully supportive of her, have been since before McCain picked her as his running mate in 2008 in fact.

But that was a (big) thing. A lot of people here don’t want to support her again, and get burned again. I can understand that completely.

However she is hugely qualified.

I hope she runs. I hope she announces early. And I hope she is our next President.

But for now, how about we turn down the nay-saying just a bit.

Have a good one. Good speaking with you.

So she’s a great speaker, but not much else. Great, we’ve found the Republican Obama...

Okay buddy, now you've pissed me off. Sarah Palin has been on the attack against this administration from the very beginning. All the while those others in the Republican party sat on their hands afraid of being critical of Obama and the media. SARAH [PALIN HAS EXHIBITED MORE LEADERSHIP IN THESE PAST YEARS THAN ALL THOSE OTHER "SO-CALLED LEADERS" PUT TOGETHER.

You don't have to like her or support her but you sure as hell should be grateful for her leadership displayed when no else would.

Sarah Palin has earned the right. She has paid her dues. I resent the hell out of spineless conservatives that won't have her back when she has had ours.
