A new smartphone market report reveals Apple is dominating as iPhones represented nearly half of the new device activations in the fourth quarter of 2014. "Apple had virtually double the sales of Samsung, and five times that of LG. No other brand accounted for as much as 5 percent of U.S. sales," says Lowitz. "The Amazon Fire and Blackberry smartphones registered slight share, which we attribute to random sample fluctuation as much as actual sales."
The report found iPhone activations nearly doubled from the previously quarter. Apple smartphones accounted for about 28 percent of new activations in third quarter of 2014.
The research firm says about 86 percent of new activations came from current iPhone users upgrading to new devices, which illustrates the ongoing allegiance of Apple fans.
While Samsung is still top dog overall in the mobile market, the Galaxy maker's handsets accounted for just about 26 percent of new activations in the fourth quarter.

Over half of iOS buyers spend over $100 per month, compared to one-third of Android customers. And, about one quarter of Android customers spend under $50 per month, compared to only 7% of iOS buyers.
That’s because iOS users are “smarter” than Android users, don’t ya know?
Bottom line is that if you are online, then you are most likely being tracked.
I doubt these numbers.
We will know for sure in a couple days.
I bet Apple’s numbers are good. It was the holidays and all their new stores in the Far East helped with their numbers.
I think Apple is leaking this information too. They are so excited and they just can’t shut up. If it was not the case, then I’m sure we would have hints of it by now.
That's why you are getting it for so cheap because you have already paid for it in your taxes.
Enjoy!
Many people harp on the market share that Android has captured compared to iOS, but where it really matters is with profit, and Apple has a colossal lead in profit when it comes to smartphones. They could have 10% marketshare and still be in a better position due to their profit performance.
I'm thinking we haven't even come close to seeing Apple at their peak. In the near future, they will become a trillion dollar company and they will earn billions upon billions upon billions of dollars for their shareholders, due to their superior product line and their ability to command premium prices - which results in a simply unimaginable amount of profit dollars.
If only I could go back to the year 2000, I would go "all in" on Apple and I would be a billionaire today.
There are bigger things coming in the near future that will have the same impact that the light bulb did. I’m talking about the Quantum Chip.
The good news is that when it comes out 2024. We will see the massive change 5 years into it...., 2029 or 14 years from now.
The biggest and when it will be scary is 2035 (20 years). That’s when A.I. will be smarter than us.
It’s just like the back doors that Microsoft has been putting into its OSes.

I’m sure Windows 10 will have them, too!
I can’t stand the apple culture.
i don’t care if they are the best i’ll still buy something different.
Bottom line. If you are online, then you are being watched.
Microsoft does it and so does Google.
The clarity of your reasoning has reached new heights. Bravo!
If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me.
Actually there are a lot more reports than that. . . it's true. Other maker's sales are dropping like stones.
“I cant stand the apple culture.”
All those darned grandparents!!!!! And even teenagers!!!!
GOOD CATCH, Mad Dawgg. They don't unless the user is paying measured data usage fees. Then they might see something like that. . . but those really haven't been around since the early days of smartphones. That has to be a FUD statement. . . and it is FUD season.
One reason is that the only maker that releases actual sales data is Apple. Apple reports numbers of phone sold to end users. The rest merely release "shipped" numbers. . . not the numbers of phones sold to end users. Apple will be reporting their numbers on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, two days from today.
I hope Windows hangs in there. I’ve tried Apple, Android and Windows, and I like the Windows interface the best. I only use ebay and Netflix apps, so the absence of apps isn’t a concern for me.
