Danish archer Lars Andersen might be the most accomplished archer of our time. Not because of any awards or medals, but purely because of what he has accomplished by studying ancient texts and paintings.
Andersen posted a video on Friday attempting to disprove the Hollywood myth of archery. Not only that, he explains how the art of archery is lost on today's archers because a majority of them stand still and aim at their target rather than be able to run, shoot, and hit their targets while also being able to shoot rapidly.
Andersen says that the ultimate feat in archery for him was to hit an arrow in the air, which he thought was impossible.
For me this is the ultimate archery, which I until recently had thought was impossible. It can be done, but requires the handling of the bow and arrow to become completely bodily. You may not have time to aim or think, and you must first be completely convinced you hit, you see, "feel" the incoming arrow and shoot in an instant, he writes.

Wow! Thanks for posting!

Thanks. BFL on archery.

“While very effective, it also took a HUGE amount of training to master using the bow ...”
Indeed. As I understand it English Bowmen practiced every chance they got. Recently a few longbows were recovered from some cold, deep water which preserved them and they turned out to require MORE “pull” than was previously assumed.
I first saw this guy about 3 years ago. He’s improved significantly.
French knights struggling with heavy armor in a mud-hole of a battlefield contributed significantly to the long bow fish in a barrel scenario at Agincourt.

So how’s this compare to anti-gunners impression of the slow weapons the Founding Fathers “must’ve been thinking of” when they wrote the 2nd Amendment? :)
Well folks, I’m impressed. I’ve been messing around with bows and arrows for a good long while, even make my own equipment, but that takes some serious practice and natural ability far beyond my humble efforts. Hats off, the young fella can shoot.
A Sergeant taught me a similar intuitive method for pistol shooting. When I was working on .45 cal. skills he told me to quit sighting the gun and point my finger where I wanted to shoot. I qualified expert.
Quite! I saw this a day or so ago in another place. Even assuming that there were many takes recorded in order to assemble the best into the video... It’s still amazing.
I’m impressed by his research into the historical manuscripts, much as we do in ARMA relating to swordsmanship. There’s gold in those documents. They were written by people who were professionals at their art, with many hundreds of years of experience guiding the state of the art at their time. Then it was largely ignored and lost after the dawn of firearms. It’s illuminating to discover that sometimes everything we think we know about some familiar subject is just plain wrong. Especially when it’s done so convincingly as this fellow has done.

He needs to franchise this method in the US. It could combine parkour with archery. It would be its own reality television show.
I’d sign up for classes.
