But Academy members seem to be paying attention to the criticism that Eastwood and star/producer Bradley Cooper shouldnt be celebrating a man who wrote that killing hundreds of Iraqis was fun.
He seems like he may be a sociopath, one Academy member told TheWrap, adding he had not yet seen the film but had read the article, which is being passed around.
Neither distributor Warner Bros. nor the filmmakers have responded to TheWraps request for comment, though the studio said they intended to make someone available.
A piece in The Guardian by author Lindy West was an early critic of Kyle: The real American Sniper was a hate-filled killer. Why are simplistic patriots treating him as a hero? he wrote.

I think we are getting closer every day. Its where Soros spends his money.
Lindy West : The real American Sniper was a hate-filled killer. Why are simplistic patriots treating him as a hero?
Heh heh ... “simplistic patriots”.
This pampered loudmouth who scribbles a bunch of kiss ass praise for people that dress up and play pretend for a living has the audacity to call patriots “simplistic”.
Someday, Lindy, your life may depend on the actions of one of these “hate filled killers”.
99.9999% of the time, one of these “hate filled killers” would lay down their life to preserve your sick, meaningless, self centered way of life.
If there is any justice in this world, it is my hope that those “hate filled killers” would take a good look at the person you are and leave you to your own defenses should the SHTF. “Simplistic patriots” haven’t a clue how to handle the brilliance of a person that critiques films for a living. I’m quite confident you can scribe nonsense about the irrelevant to get yourself out of harm’s way should that day come.
You’re not alone on that one Friend. I’ve got them in my own family.
With these people’s parents and grandparents.
An industry that celebrates murderers like Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, and Mumia Abu-Jamal questions the ethics of a movie celebrating a military sniper? Without a trace of irony? It is to laugh.
I thought the US was no longer Hollywood's biggest market?
So you have a dishonest representation of a US-based cultural event hyped by the media at the time 50 years ago, and it fails to draw interest from the 85% of non-black America, let alone the rest of the world, and they are not only surprised, but angry?
The gimmedat crowd never ceases to want more.
Didn't it start at some "music" "awards" show?
Not to mention that releasing the pic during the time of the backwards logic of the Ferguson riots probably wasn't the smartest of marketing moves. Either that, or they actually believe the BS of the LSM reportage.
Dumping on "American Sniper" is a green-eyed Alinsky move.
While true, large parts of modern society just don’t get it.
I at least read to the part where the guy said he hadn’t seen the film he was criticizing.
What a douche.
The film made war appear horrible. For everyone involved.
We’re we supposed to have our guys apologizing?
I would recommend the movie “boyhood”.
It was made over a TWELVE YEAR period. It was done by the IFC network. It is a low budget movie. It follows the growth of 6 year old boy named Mason and his family through his teens and finally going off to college. It is a little long and slightly slow in parts but you literally watch these people age throughout the movie. It is a groundbreaking accomplishment.
It won the Golden Globe for best picture, director and supporting actress for Patricia Arquett.
Ethan Hawke plays her First EXhusband and father to the children. At first he is a Bush hating liberal. His only cool attribute is his 1970s GOT. Eventually he finds happiness later in life when he marries a conservative Christian woman from a Gun loving family. He sells the GOT so he can pay cash for a minivan for his new family.
FYI, this is not a Hollywood movie. It was filmed on location in Texas. There is even a scene that appeared to be filmed at Astros Stadium with Roger Clemens on the mound.
George Orwell
What a bunch of shallow idiots these hollywood types are.
Refresh my memory ... who’s the wanker?
I recognize the picture, but don’t remember the name or “institution of higher learning”.
GTO not GOT
Darn autocorrect
A dedicated military man doing his job. People who have a problem with this don’t live in the real world.
They are all for abortion though...you bet! it’s just a blob of flesh.
We are amongst some of biggest idiots in the world and being attacked by the most ruthless at the same time.
Insanity.
Right. Great article.
We called them goats in high school.
Hey lefty, Chris Kyle killed so you wouldn't have to.
I guess that Charlie Hedbo solidarity didn’t last long.
At the age of 64, I hope it comes while I can still take my shots.
Hollywood loves cop killers. And rapists.
Yep.
