Brother Noah of the Monastery of Christ in the Desert in New Mexico says he failed to stay peaceful while dealing with United Airlines on the phone, the New York Times reported.
I said to her something like: Thank you for speaking. God bless you. I will pray for you. But you have not been helpful, he told the broadsheet.
When David Segal, author of "The Haggler" column, suggested this did not sound like much of an outburst, Brother Noah said he knows the tone of his voice manifested anger.

WUS! Your ansctors made it here without having to use an airplane! ;-)
Probably a rigid FAA regulation pertaining to repair log books that dates back to:
The Haggler column in the Times supplies a lot more detail:
From the NY Times:
“The Haggler was intrigued. What exactly does a livid monk sound like, anyway?
I said to her something like: Thank you for speaking. God bless you. I will pray for you. But you have not been helpful.
“Whoa, Brother Noah! Dial back the rage there, fella. Youre going to pop a vein.
You, Toad? Oh dear...but I have always pictured you as so very monkish!
lol
(says the monktoad in a low and gentle tone)
We flew a DC-3 from Huatulco to Oaxaca, Mexico some years back.
The airline was “Air Liberdat.”
LOL!
Art would have kept his composure :-)
The Nuns live down the road. That's where they brew the beer.
Sounds more like creative capitalism.
Sounds like the monk was having a good time in Malawi.
Something about the whole thing makes me go hmmmmmm.
United has been less than helpful to us in recent days, too. In days of old, if they screwed something up, you could ask for a customer service supervisor who would usually make something happen. If they couldn’t, they used to give you something as a courtesy for having erred.
Nowadays, they just tell you that they can’t do anything for you at all, and don’t offer any sort of courtesy. Their customer service left us stunned at their total lack of service.
Sounds like United or their newly hired fraud company tried to cancel the return trip from the credit card and dropped the ball on getting the new ticket issued.
But, I hate visiting the mainland, so should not ba an issue unless I have to go to Oahu for some medical BS.
Why does anyone at all still fly on that airline? at least in economy class. Staff is curt and rude. Passengers are insulted and luggage is often sent straight to Chicago for sale rather than to the airport it is ticketed for.
It’s sad to see my former company go from First to Worst. ugh. :(
The Polynesians manage to get there and sure didn’t fly United to get there! Come on MAN UP! ;-)

Me too. Noticed on their website they have a section labeled “sustainability” and under that a sub-section labeled “biodiversity”.
These guys talk St Benedict but sort of mock him with their little image of him ‘meeting’ you at the begining of their website.
VERY very different than the Benedictine monastery I visit every Sunday. Biodiversity??? Let’s just say they WILL protect their crops and livestock. Lol!
He should have just told them if he helped him, on his deathbed he would receive total consciousness.
