Back in the mid-seventies I used to pour over these catalogs, dreaming of all of the stuff I would buy, someday... Funny thing is, most of the prices have dropped dramatically, especially for stereo equipment.

I haven’t even looked at the catalog you have. I just remember drooling at the $329 cassette deck with Dolby and (I think) CrO2 switch from about ‘73 or so.

I used to love Radio Shack “back in the day”. That Radio Shack no longer exists.
I stopped by RS a few months ago, thinking that I’d pick up a replacement Android charging cable. Yeah, they had one — $20 for their fancy coiled version. I got a perfectly functional one at Dollar Tree for a buck.
A later attempt to get a mono to stereo 1/8” adapter had me wondering where they get such incompetent sales people. This guy had as much comprehension of what I needed as the rack he was standing next to.

Last time I was in Radio Shack, I asked for a charger for my Samsung Galaxy. The sales clerk handed me this off brand charger, so I asked her if it was compatible with my phone. She assured me it was. Bought the charger and...you guessed it...it didn't work with my phone.
I should have known better. One of my friends loves Radio Shack. She used to gift me with radios, CO players and what not from RS. All of them died in about a year or so of purchase.

I’m a ham radio op...Radio Shack was my Saturday hang out.neverything you needed to upgrade the station. I go in there now and it is really disappointing...just another phone store. The catalogs reminded me of a much treasured memory...but now only a memory. Thank you for posting.

“Quadraphonic” - Ha Ha Ha! Forgot about that! My buddy had a ‘quad’ system, complete with the most ridiculous headphones you ever saw - 2 speakers on each side of his head.
At the time though, we thought it was absolutely the balls!
Had an 8-track too. Ah, the memories are flooding back...

Great Superbowl commercial but wrong marketing strategy. Now RS is a second rate phone store with a bunch of radio controlled cars and quad copters. As a ham, I frequent my local RS and they never have what I need.

Wow, great resource!
Actually the first Radio Shack store opened in 1921.

No wonder their stock price is currently at $0.37/share!

I’m a bit surprised that it’s even that high. What a waste that store has become.

Radio Shack will probably go out of business in the next few months. It will be the end of an era. But it was a good era.
